Here are the reasons as to why I believe Karat is a 3 star Turkish restaurant.
Bill: Never seen a practice like this. When you ask for the bill, they do NOT bring a piece of paper showing the breakdown of the final amount. They bring out the credit card machine that only displays the "Tip" section. You have no clue what you are paying for until AFTER you pick the tip percentage.
Iskender kebab 1/10: What they serve here is not doner and hence why its not Iskender kebab. It resembles shawarma and even then it does a poor job imitating it. From my personal experience, this was the worst iskender kebab I ate in all of GTA. I guess there is a reason why this plate costs $16.99 and any other iskender kebab at a good turkish restaurant is $22-24. Oh and when I ordered it, it came as cold as ice so I had to send it back, Their explanation was that the tomato sauce is cold that's why the meat was cold ? What lol ? There should not be anything cold in an iskender kebab.
Beef kebab 6/10: The salad that comes with the plate is a joke. The plate looked plain and bland. Steak pieces were nice and tasty but can def add more. The rice was bland (just plain white rice).
Baklavas were nice and tasty and the server was pleasant and attentive.
They serve hummus (which is great) and a meze that resembles a tomato sauce ? (not sure what this is but please take this off menu it is not good)
Not sure what was going on but they had a band "practicing" music and they were BLASTING the sound so high I couldn't hear what my gf was saying across the table.
It is suffice to say that I will not be back to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWARNING: Donāt be fooled by the rating like we did!!! How this place has a 4.9 star rating is literally beyond me. The food was mediocre at best and Iāve never experienced such amateur customer service before in my life. There was only one server on a busy Saturday dinner rush and it seemed like it was either her first day working or she just didnāt know what she was doing. She seemed so confused and could hardly answer any of our questions regarding the menu items.
Only two people from our group received food and the others had to wait almost an hour. Once they finally got their food, they were told that what they ordered was not available so the kitchen replaced it with something else. The problem is: nobody wants to eat food that is randomly switched to something they didnāt even order.
When we asked to pay for our bill (which took another 45 minutes) the staff approached us with the machine which displayed the tip selection right away without showing us the amount or what we are paying for. When we asked to see the items and the prices on the bill, we were told we have to pay first⦠huge red flag.
One pro is that their baklava was good and they didnāt charge us for that (considering everything that happened.) But thatās definitely not enough for us to come back. Itās so sad, this restaurant has great potential but very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOrdered Iskander and Assorted Pide. The restaurant charged me 24.99 as per the printed menu price for Iskander, while it was 17.99 online. On my highlighting, they promptly gave me a refund, which was highly commendable on their part. Food was excellent, both the Iskander and Pide, just that there was no yogurt in the Iskander, as is described in the online menu and is usually a standard serving (may be the chef missed it). Definitely 5 stars for the overall experience and food quality + taste. Will definitely recommend it to others and will be a regular...
