OHKIM Sushi — Restaurant in Vernon

Placed a pick up order 3 hours ahead of time. Arrive via cab to pick up said order - not told for the first few minutes that I'm waiting that it's 15 minutes late. Okay, well, that sucks. Go outside, pay the cab, he leaves.

Wait until 15 minutes. Order a Uride. Uride arrives and still, my food is not ready. Uride actually cancels my ride and leaves, because of the wait time. Get told 2 more minutes. Wait another 10. So, for food I requested to pick up at 6:30pm I didn't get until 7:10pm.

Here's the thing - I also cook for a living. At no juncture did the front of house staff approach me - I had to approach each time. I was polite, as were they, but they were not forthcoming with information and that soon became irritating. After a 40 minute delay on food, and 1 half mumbled apology, I then had to walk home - Uride wouldn't accept another booking from me, and the cab would be too long. Perhaps some better front end customer service?

The food is delicious, always. But the service? Questionable at best. Will not be returning again after tonight, I cannot fathom giving this business another dollar. More power to those that enjoy it and get service, I will take my...

A deliciously different style of sushi in Vernon!

Tempura and gyoza were great. The gyoza are deep fried which I wasn't expecting - still good.

Fun rolls: we got the Mexican Roll and there were many others. We also got some classic favourites like the Alaska Roll and Dynamite Roll. They were fresh quality, great presentation, the plate they were on made it a little hard to pick up the sushi without them falling apart.

Fresh sashimi: we got the Tuna and Salmon Sashimi and it was delicious and also came with fresh raspberries and blueberries on the side. The fish was very fresh.

Yellow curry: this was so flavourful and hearty. We got it with rice and it probably could have come with a bit more rice. They also have it with udon which we will try next time.

Creme brulee was probably the least amazing. The green tea ice cream and vanilla ice cream on the side were large scoops. The creme brulee itself was quite solid. I would've liked it to be more custard-y.

In general food and service is great but I'm left dissapointed by the dissapearance of Korean food even though it's a "Korean and Japanese" restaurant. Ever since their new menu came out 98% of the Korean stuff is gone. Only good place for good Korean food now is in Kelowna since suda is horrible and a waste of money.

If you're looking for good sushi this is the place to go but it's gonna be mainly "north american style" rolls and what not so mainly cooked fillings like tempura, imitation crab, they do have a good raw fish selection as well but you'd be better off going to some other place in town as they're more tailored for that traditional sushi experience.
