The hostess who was there on June 16th was extremely busy. She was arrogant and not customer-facing material. Eating out is about the experience, not just swallowing food.
We were closer to 3 pm. The hostess was somehow standoffish… but whatever, it was a busy day and it was a special day… She told us there weren't tables and the earliest she could seat us was at 5:30. We thanked her and left, but later, we decided to eat there, so we reserved a table at 5:30 in the lounge area. So, closer to that time, we went there, but she told us she couldn't seat us since we were a family with kids under 18 (my kids are 2, 5, and 7). However, she’ll see what she can do. I know this sounds great, but the way she communicated had a lot of arrogance. After a while, she came and told us that she, “Her Highness,” found us a table, but “you guys need to leave in an hour!” she said this with a look on her face that I couldn't explain in words with an open jaw and eyes wide open. She wasn't apologetic but rather talking down to us. We are a family with young kids, of course we were not going to eat for a whole hour. But the way she talked to us made me upset... When I confronted her and told her about the way she was communicating and that she should not speak to us in this way, she put a smirk on her face and didn't care. So I asked for a manager, and another lady came and told us she would sort things out and have us seated immediately. BUT the damage was done! The hostess ruined our mood, and it was a special day for us yesterday (Father's Day and Eid).
We ended up at Moxie’s… such a friendly staff. I entered the place pretty upset from my experience at Cactus; however, I left the place pretty pleased.
Cactus, on your busy days, please enforce using magic words by your staff. Specially hostesses, they...
Read moreWe visited Cactus Club Cafe at West Edmonton Mall for my duaghters 16th birthday today, party of 4. Beautiful and sophisticated interior, great vibe and the staff was AMAZING however, the capabilities of the chef left something to be desired. Start to finish it was not an overly enjoyable dining experience, by no fault of our server or the manager on duty. The Appetizers were okay, nothing to rave over but they aren't the main show, the problem came with our main dishes. 3 of us ordered steak, 2 medium rare and 1 medium well. First attempt the medium rare were almost blue they were so rare and the medium well was beyond well done, the manager had them re made and all would have been well if they hadn't, for a second time brought out one super rare. The manager did stand by and watch to ensure we were satisfied and took back the one that was wrong just for it to come back the same way a 3rd time with the manager eyeing the steak to see if the food would be correct. At this point my husband and I were fed up, he was a chef for years so we are well aware of the industry and what it entails so we ensured our frustration was not unleashed on someone who truly had no fault in our experience being negative. Our anger was expressed in a, generally, civilized manner and the manager was very understanding and did his best to ensure a positive experience for us to the end. I suggest they find a red seal chef who actually knows how to cook a steak instead of loosing the company approximately $250 on a single tables dining experience. Huge thanks to our server and the manager for their cander throughout, they had such an amazing energy and were a joy to interact with outside of the negativity and if they ever replace that 'chef' we'd be happy to return and allow the Cactus Club Cafe and chance to...
Read moreMy daughter was at the mall with some friends, so my husband and I decided to sneak in a quick date night.
It was already pretty busy when we got there, around 5ish on a Friday night. The hostess took my name and cell phone, to which they texted us when our table was ready. I loved that, super convenient.
We were sat in the heated patio, great atmosphere and very warm considering the early winter weather we’re having. The hostess who sat us was super friendly. My only challenge, and something that can really turn my mood, is the cushions on the bench and the throw pillows were absolutely disgusting. They had just cleaned the table with what I can only assume was a dirty rag, as it smelled pretty bad until the table dried off.
Nathan was our server, and his area seemed pretty busy, but he was a doll... listened more then he spoke, great manners, checked in on us just enough times, and quick to clean up... he had just the perfect kinda personality!
Dinner was nice. It was prompt, warm and very well presented. I had two of the happy hour starter options, a ravioli and flat bread and it was super delish!!!! Unfortunately, my husband who is a vegetarian, had limited options and ordered the veggie burger which was blah to say the least. Our server did recommend the kale salad, which was actually really good.
We didn’t have desert, but I did have their Frozé ™️ and that was/is my new favourite recommend to everyone drink. Soooooo good, elderflower is one of the ingredients. Divine 💜
All in all, if you’re at the mall, great place to stop in. The entire staff is gorgeous, and well put together and the atmosphere is west end posh. The music was 00s R&B which...
