Giving two stars because it’s not fair to rate a steakhouse when you’re not eating steak or seafood. But that being said, this was fairly disappointing.
My husband chose this restaurant so we could branch out and explore outside our typical go-to restaurant box on our anniversary. The handwritten anniversary card at our table was a nice touch, but upon first sitting, the waitress, whose name I didn’t catch, put off a vibe of annoyance. I can’t say I can put my finger on it other than we probably weren’t her favorite customers. She seemed lackluster and uninterested in making the experience special, relaxing or enjoyable. She did seem to perk up a bit after we ordered. But also didn’t check in with us as much as I would’ve expected.
After scouring the menu for drinks, we ordered the agua Fresca and no-Paloma as non-alcoholic beverages. They tasted essentially like fancy water with chunks of plant matter. We questioned our waitress about this with humor asking if any sweetness was supposed to be added. She said no, this is how they’re supposed to be. I’m not sure how anyone could enjoy either of those drinks without some sort of sweetness. But since we’re not big on anything alcoholic, we embarrassingly pleaded ignorance and ordered an ice tea to compensate. But still, those drinks could use some sugary overhaul, and it would’ve been a class act to have them voluntarily comped from our bill.
As far as the food, it was quite daunting looking over the menu to see any other options other than meat to try. Admittedly, user error. But someone’s gotta rate the sides and accompaniment items, right?
Ultimately, we finally settled on going for a few apps and sides: the mushroom dip, crispy cauliflower, Mac n cheese, onion rings, wedge salad, tuna Tartar, and Caesar salad.
Full disclosure, we’ve never seen more pathetic salads. I wish I had taken a picture, but was trying to be present! The wedge salad was a quarter of a head of iceberg lettuce with a half handful of diced tomatoes thrown on top and a couple sides of watery dressing. This was $13. I was in shock. Caesar salad wasn’t much better, but at least looked as it should have. Also $13. Dressing was also watery and lacked flavor.
The crispy cauliflower with aioli was a hit, as was the rich, creamy mushroom dip with pull apart rolls. The bread was super tasty, but I felt like the softness of the dough didn’t contrast enough with the heaviness of the dip, making the mouth feel too mushy. I would’ve preferred a crunchy sourdough to accompany the dip.
The Mac n cheese could’ve used a deeper depth of flavor, but had a satisfying crispy top. My husband liked the flavor of the onion rings and tuna tartar. As a huge sushi fan, I felt the tuna was fairly one note and boring, sitting on top of unseasoned, roughly mashed avocado, and use of confusing chip-type crackers. One taste was enough for me.
Ultimately, if you’re vegetarian, don’t bother coming here. We 100% won’t be back. I get this might sound stupid, but for the money, it was so not worth it. I really wish we would’ve left and grabbed food at the Olive Garden. Yikes!
And to the server, maybe consider not working in the service industry, or fake it til you make it. We didn’t like being uncomfortable because you might have been having a bad day. And unfortunately we didn’t tip well because the service wasn’t...
Read moreWent to this The Keg location for my birthday, we were served by Holly. Let me tell you, she is awesome! Such a fun, upbeat, casual but professional server, we had a great experience with her! She really made us feel welcomed and comfortable! When we made our reservation, we requested to sit in a quieter area, and they did not disappoint! We were pretty much sat as far away from the music as possible which I am extremely grateful for as I am unable to tolerate loud spaces well so restaurants are always a struggle but our table at The Keg was great!
We ordered the white sangria which was as good as always. If you're looking for a sangria that isn't overpoweringly sweet, you'll love The Keg sangrias, they use carbonated water instead of 7UP/Sprite so it's very refreshing. I tend to avoid sangrias at other restaurants and bars because I find them sickly sweet but The Keg's are perfect.
The mac'n'cheese was good, needed a bit of salt and pepper, which is just personal taste, but I loved that you could taste the cheese in it! Breadcrumbs on top were nice and crispy.
Ribs were fall-off-the-bone, BUT a little chewey at the same time. They were rather light on the brushed-on sauce compared to other restaurant ribs, and the sauce that came on the side wasn't quite the same as a traditional restaurant rib sauce. They were good however so this is just up to personal taste. Fries were good, fresh and hot! Came with a cheesy biscuit but we were too full to taste it.
Bacon-wrapped blue cheese filet mignon was perfection! Bacon was crispy, steak was cooked to perfection, and they were VERY generous with the amount of blue cheese! If you're a bluecheese lover like I am, you will be happy! Only advice I would give if you are not familiar with different cuts of steak, filet mignon has a very mild taste that is easily overpowered, and blue cheese is very strong, so if you'd like to savour the taste of the meat, I recommend being frugal in your blue cheese usage. You'll have excess blue cheese at the end but you won't feel like you've wasted an expensive piece of meat on blue cheese. The vegetables that came with my steak were perfect! Absolutely delicious and refreshing, I think I got my veggie fix for now with the huge selection of vegetables on my plate!
They gave us a complimentary dessert for my birthday, which was the Billy Miner pie, an icecream cake. It was delicious! Served with chocolate and caramel sauce, a chocolate wafer crumb crust (tasted like the wafers of an icecream sandwich), and toasted sliced almonds. We had never had this dessert before and were very surprised at the light coffee taste in the icecream and its airy texture! I love coffee but my partner doesn't, but he really enjoyed this one as the taste was very mild!
Overall, we loved our dinner and would come back! Another great The...
Read moreMy wife and I came here for her birthday and it was an outstanding experience.
Our servers name was Tammy and she was absolutely amazing. Are glasses didn't get more than half empty before she. She was extremely friendly and made sure all the plates were gone as soon as we finish them and move them aside. Extremely polite and always helpful for whatever we needed would definitely go back to visit her.
We ordered a virgin pina colada and it was one of the best we've ever had.
We also decided to order three entrees and share them just to get an idea of how they each tasted because we couldn't decide what to order.
We ordered: 1:The full rack is ribs 2:The salmon 3:The burger
My review of each:
1: the full rack of ribs was tasty but I wouldn't necessarily say they were fall-off-the-bone however I would order them again. I got it with a side of Caesar salad it was quite tasty also. I would suggest them using a little bit more sauce on the ribs I would give it an overall rating of about 7.5 out of 10
2: the salmon was very good and moist. The nuts they added on top made it very sweet and was very tasty once again I would also recommend an order this. The mashed potatoes that accompanied it are extremely delicious and tasty very soft and fluffy but had extremely good flavour to them The brussel sprouts they came with had a lot of flavour and I'm not sure if it was just the way they always cook them but they did seem to be a bit more crunchy than you would expect brussel sprouts to be, almost like undercooked but they weren't raw and extremely tasty and I would definitely get this dish again I would give it a rating of about 8.5 out of 10
3: the burger was extremely delicious I definitely enjoyed the sauce that they had on it as well as the bun they used was extremely chewy and yet soft at the same time it was nice to bite into and fresh. All the ingredients they added on that were delicious. And the taste of the burger had that real fire charcoal style taste that you would expect from a homemade cooked Burger was absolutely delicious. The french fries that accompaniedthe burger was very fresh and crisp and had the perfect amount of salt on them. I would give it a rating of about 8.5 out of 10
For dessert we got there coffee Oreo cookie crumble something it was free with our birthday celebration and it was probably one of the best I've ever had in the city it would relate very similarly to what you would call a mud pie it was absolutely delicious. I would give it a rating of...
