Edit Jan 31 2025: My review was submitted before I spoke to a manager while waiting to be acknowledged that I had completed my meal and while watching other patrons who arrived before and after me get adequate customer service. The poor service started before I mentioned that the burger tasted nothing like the Buffalo burger I had before. So, my raising that is not what contributed to the poor service although it should not have.
This restaurant also sent me an email reply to my completing their webform. They made a distasteful comment that suggested my experience was in my head or that the deplorable service was justified. I was satisfied with the resolution for me not to pay. However, their distasteful comment days later confirmed this is a restaurant to stay away from.
If you don't believe me, check your cameras if you have them. You will see that I was treated differently. Don't gaslight me or diminish what I experienced as a result of your staff.
Original Review: Just learned one of my long-time friends has cancer. I had an appointment nearby an opted for a healthy meal before returning home. I ordered the Buffalo burger, which I have eaten before. I also asked for water to drink. The water never arrived. However, people who came in before me and after me got glasses of water. I looked at the burger before eating it. I knew it was not the Buffalo burger. I got up from my table since no one had the courtesy to check on me after my food was served while other guests were checked on. I am Black. The only Black person in this space. Is that what explains the detrimental differential treatment? I went by the kitchen and told them I was given the wrong burger. I was told I was given the Buffalo burger. I bit into the untouched burger which confirmed I was not given the right burger. I told them I got the wrong burger because it does not taste like Buffalo burger. I got another burger and again, it was not the Buffalo burger. I did not bother to inform them again. Is the chef new? I've had the Buffalo burger before and this is not it. This was an extremely disappointing experience, which especially was not ideal given I just learned one of my long-time friends has cancer. Your staff saw me in tears when I placed my order and asked for water... the water I never received while others around me got water and better...
Read moreThe food is good 7/10 however Aux Vivres is incredibly inconsistent. It's never a smooth process ordering from Aux Vivres or eating in their restaurant.
For take out, they often forget something or something is not made correctly. For example, my order was missing a soup and when I called them to let them know, they were like "Oh ya the dhal soup right?" Fully knowing they did not pack my soup...and they're response is "well you can come back for it", when I live 30+ minutes away. As a regular customer you would think they would be a little more apologetic and offer you something for the inconvenience. Not to mention when you call their restaurant you have to press "1" about 10 times before actually speaking to someone...you go through this process and they do nothing to help the situation or try to retain you as a client.
When you eat at their location it takes forever to order, forever to receive your food, forever to receive your receipt and no one checks on you during your meal. There's been several occasions where I've seen my coffee sitting on the counter for 10 minutes and have to get up and go get it myself.
I find a lot of vegan restaurants in Montreal go out of their way to retain their clientele and keep their customers happy however Aux Vivres seems to see each client as a number and nothing more. It's feeling more and more like a chain and less and less like a community.
I love promoting vegan restaurants in Montreal however I have a hard time promoting or recommending Aux Vivres as you never know what kind of service you're going to get or if you'll get the food you...
Read moreBad readymade frozen food. To sell the frozen parathas each individually for $9 when you can literally buy a pack of 5 malabar Parathas for $2 is weird. It’s not like they are making them in house coz I had those parathas and they are not made in-house and are the same frozen ones from the supermarket. They are just selling frozen and reheating it in the name of vegetarian food and it’s not ok. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. From the malai kofta to the paratha it’s all coming from the frozen section. It’s scamming locals who have never had real malai kofta or parathas and deceitful practice. Maybe inform customers you are reheating frozen food and charging them an exorbitant price for that before selling stuff 😂. I have been eating vegetarian food all my life and if this is your version of vegetarian or vegan food then I am sorry to say but it’s a hard pass.
Reply to the owner- if the Parathas are frozen ones then why are you including them in your dishes and charging $9 for one frozen paratha when a pack of 5 is available for $2. Charging $9 for a 0.40 cent paratha you bought from the supermarket frozen section is beyond disgusting. Are you informing your customers they are paying $9 for frozen parathas? Just stop lying and I wouldn’t ever recommend this restaurant to anyone. You don’t make vegan nutritious food..you sell frozen food at 15-20x the margin and call it ‘made from scratch’. Pretty sure the malai kofta is also coming from the...
