It all started at the valet who said we get our parking validated at the chalet but so far so good. All 11 of us get to the chalet expecting a table of 5 and a table for 6 like we were told over the phone. When we get there we could not validate our parking like the valet said, it has to be at the hotel. No biggie, but it would be nice if staff actually knew how things worked at the hotel. Then we were told that we have 2 tables of 4 and a table for 3. If we’d known this we would have cancelled. Then we sit down because if we go somewhere else no one would have availability for our group of 11. The $150 wine that was reccomended to us was absolutely gross as it was a young $28 bottle of wine. So we ordered a mediocre mission hills. I ordered a beer. They’re wine selection was really limited and really overpriced. We had the 3 course cheese fondue. The French onion soup was really good. Then came the cheese fondue 1.5 hrs after we sat down ( the restaurant wasn’t full). And we received a big bowl of bread, some pickles and olive, a small portion of veggies and some thinly sliced rib eye for two people that wasn’t even 10 once’s. As everyone at the table got the fondue, we all looked at each other in absolute shock on how little meat was supplied. The chocolate fondue came at the 2.5 hr mark and was good but nothing great. Not once did the waitress ask to fill anyones glass of wine nor ask me if I wanted something else to drink after my initial beer I ordered. At the 3 hr mark when we were asking for our cheque the waitress asked if we wanted a shuttle back to the hotel, to which we said yes. She replied that she would get the big shuttle for us. She took so long to finish everything and after paying the bill we finally waited by the front doors for the shuttle and this extremely rude shuttle driver said to us in a rude and angry voice that we’ve missed the big shuttle bus because we took so long and now we’re going to have to deal with two shuttles. It would have been nice if a staff member let us know the shuttle bus was here for us a we had no idea. I should also say we had 4 kids under 11 at one of the tables by themselves, so the fact that they were on the most part we’ll behaved is shocking considering we were sitting for 3 hrs. I can honestly say this was an extremely disappointing experience to say the least. The price you pay here is definitely not what you get. I will never go back there or recommend it to anyone in the future.
***Update Nov 1 2022
A manager reached out to me to “make things right” and left a message on my vm. I called back and left a message for him to call me back - and guess what - I still haven’t heard back from him or anyone else. The disappointments just keep coming.
update Sept2023*
I did leave another message about 10 months ago and still no word for anybody at the Clubhouse or the Fairmont. I guess I should...
Read moreThis used to be our favorite place to eat each year we visit for our ski week. The food has always been amazing, but this trip was not very good at all. First, when we arrived we told the waitress it was our son’s seventeenth birthday, which our waitress either forgot or did not care. Second, our waitress was nowhere to be seen most of the night except when she had a huge table, she never asked us if we needed or wanted refills (she did check to see if we were enjoying the food). For the amount of money you drop in this nice restaurant, not making sure your table has drinks refreshed is not great service, forgetting a birthday when told 👎. Next year we will just eat at the Fairmont where the service has been consistently good while we stayed there this trip and all the other years we visited the Grill and Wildflower.
The wine list was awful. I wanted a bottle of Napa Valley Cabernet, which they did not offer but they did offer a Cabernet bottle from a region in CA I did not know well, so I looked the bottle up and balked at the fact the price on the wine menu was 10x the cheapest price I found on the internet. Why waste money on cheap bottle in a region no one knows. It...
Read moreThe restaurant was mostly empty, pretty quiet. Wine selection was not so great, and the waitress didn’t seem to know much about pairing. The wine we ended up taking was ok, but smelt weird. Service was otherwise good. We had the cheese fondue with garlic. The cheese was not great: fondue is supposed to be a mix of Emmental, Appenzeller, and Beaufort; not just Emmental. In terms of quantity, the bread and pickles are bottomless, but there was not enough cheese for 3 (what we had would be ok for 2), and I’m not usually a big eater. Speaking of bread, the baguette was subpar. Not what I would expect for this kind of restaurant, even in North America. Garlic was very good, but note that the fondue will come stuffed with tens of whole garlic cloves if you take the garlic option. I liked it, but be aware that it will be more than an aftertaste. My other friend who didn’t take the fondue said his food was pretty good. Desert menu was a bit shy, and didn’t have much explanations (German names didn’t help). But the deserts were pretty good. Parking was a...
