From 100m away, you could tell that this place is Indian, with a garishly painted food delivery tuk-tuk and numerous elephant headed Hindu deities adorning the joint... But hey! it is an Indian restaurant. Friday lunch time, the restaurant was 25 to 30 % full, we were promptly, politely and cheerfully greeted and seated. We ordered an octopus masala appetizer, a mushroom and cheese appetizer, plain naan, and a shrimp salad. A few minutes later, the waiter returned to inform us that they had not received their produce delivery that morning, so no salads today. The wait for the food was not unreasonably long. The numerous flies that circled and dive bombed the food when it arrived certainly did enhance the Indianness of the ambiance. Been there, swatted that. The pulpo (2 largish tentacles) was quite tough at the thick end, only getting tender when the thickness was less than 0.5 cm. Remarkably, the pulpo was cold and devoid of taste. All the flavour was only in the masala which still needed salt - and this from a customer that does not cook with salt! Pulpo Galegos and Greek/Italian grilled octopus infuse plenty of flavours, so why can't these Rishtedar guys? The naan was lukewarm at best, thin and flaccid, but the taste was spot on. We can be grateful that the mushrooms were topped with a white western melted cheese, not Indian paneer. There was an out of place overriding sweetness to the mushrooms that caused the dish to be quite displeasing. We took no leftovers home, 1/3 of what I paid for went into the trash. At the end of the meal a waitress brought around a copper colored pitcher and basin for hand washing. Acknowledging that the foods and the culture lean towards eating by hand, wouldn't hand washing before the meal be advisable, with a provided towel? The owners and cooks are apparently from India, but the flaours in their food are wide of the mark. The owners may have 'tamped down' their recipes to better appeal to the Santiago palettes, but they may have only 'dumbed down' the flavours. I am no expert on Indian food, but I am Sri Lankan, and just yesterday I served to my wife's relatives a brie en croute appetizer, followed by Idli and mixed vegetable sambar, which go to prove that good flavours can be achieved in a cheese focused appetizer, and even stronger flavours in an Indian...
Read moreTerrible is the word that comes to my mind. Being an Indian, I feel ashamed to have come here just coz I was visiting Chile.
Firstly making local people wear Indian dress doesn't make the place more Indian without them speaking English/Hindi or understanding a single menu item.
We went on the basis of high reviews. I ordered kababs as appetizers for the table. They were rubbery and were difficult to cut. It felt as though it was a hot dog.
They bring it on a sizzling cast-iron skillet that makes one feel it will be hot. It was not at all hot. One can just take it from the skillet with their own hands.
Anyway... Too rubbery and has zero flavors. Then we ordered the lehsuni chicken curry, two butter nans, and biryani.
The gravy of the chicken curry was decent but, the chicken was so dry that it felt like it was made a day before and just added to the gravy.
Nans were OK.
Coming to the biggest disappointment... Biryani.
If any biryani enthusiast comes to this place and rates the dish they would have to go with anything less than zero stars.
Boiled chicken mixed with rice is not biryani.
The portion size is another that every person comments on reviews. The size is so small that it feels like a joke and charges so much.
One thing for sure, don't eat Indian at least from this place if you are in Vitacura.
Note: This review is coming from an Indian who has been in North India and has tried every dish possible. Biryani is something I have grown up with and this ** is not biryani.
I am sooo frustrated and so...
Read moreI was craving tikka masala, and I remembered seeing this place a couple days before. We went there for lunch, and it wasn’t too crowded.
The staff was friendly and more attentive than a regular Chilean place I’ve been to.
I loved the restaurant’s decoration. It was just fun to look around.
We ordered Pakora Mix as an appetizer. There were fried eggplants, mushrooms, onions, and tofu. The plating looked great, but I was not a big fan of the kind of batter they use. It wasn’t bad, but it was a little disappointing.
I ordered Achari Murgh Tikka Masala and my husband got Butter Chicken. They don’t come with rice or naan so you have to order them separately. We got the rice and the garlic naan. They were both enough for both of us. The naan was huge. Since it was on the thinner side, it was a little crispy. Both of us loved it.
When the dishes first arrived, I thought that they were very small. But don’t let the plating deceive you. It’s actually a lot of food. I could barely finish my tikka masala.
I got the high spicy level of 4. It was definitely spicy and great. I didn’t expect a restaurant in Chile to serve something that spicy. I would drop it to 3 next time though lol My husband got level 3, and he enjoyed it! But he had to order a mango lassi to help him cope with the heat. I did find the chicken a little dry but the flavor was definitely great!
After we finished our food, they brought us a bowl with a jar of warm water for us to wash our hands.
We loved it, and we would definitely...
