My wife and I recently stayed at the Renaissance Hotel, Santiago 3 times for a total of 8 nights during January and February 2025. As part of an extended trip through South America and antarctica, we visited the hotel while in Santiago, CL or while transiting through on our way to our next destination.|The hotel staff are for the most part, friendly, accommodating and helpful. Staff speak a variety of languages in addition to Spanish and were always eager to practice.|The hotel has a lovely and relaxing pool area with loungers, small cabanas and extensive patio and garden areas for relocation. There is a dreary Sky Bar on the top floor which disappoints in food and beverage quality and was nearly vacant on a Friday evening. The décor is dated and dingy with an overall worn down feeling. The space my better be used if converted to the Bonvoy members lounge or a high end suite. The current Bonvoy Members lounge is small and utilitarian. The staff in the lounge are however exemplary. Pleasant conversationalist, and on top of remembering requests, restocking food and beverage items and generally making time spent there pleasant. The room itself is smaller, decorated in a utilitarian manner and feels dated. While we were there we had the misfortune of encountering more than a couple “loud talkers” who couldn’t or wouldn’t use their indoor voices. Most of the lounge guest seem to be from North America (excluding Mexico) and so the conversations where primarily in English. Additionally, the hotel seemed to attract a fair number of individuals who were either at the beginning or end of a cruise.|The concierge staff called the Navigators are great. Arranging private tours and restaurant recommendations as well s private airport transfer. |Housekeeping was good but seemed to have a lot of rooms to clean on a daily basis. This resulted in them not getting to the room until later in the day on occasion. Their work was thorough and they were conscientious about restocking toiletries and towels. One thing I disliked is that this hotel uses the practice of using a flat sheet as a bottom sheet on beds. This is uncomfortable for guests, requires extra work for housekeeping staff to tuck, smooth and rearrange and it is a cost saving measure for the hotel that is dis service to the consumer. These days this practice can distinguish between high end hotels and mid to low quality ones. I have yet to experience the non fitted bottom sheet in true luxury properties. The adage you get what you pay for is true!|The hotel is a solid choice in a good area. Flanked by a large residential area, shopping mall and pedestrian corridors it affords guests a variety of views and activities in the...
Read moreThis was our third visit to Santiago and our third ( and longest--two week) stay at the Renaissance. I can't say enough about the warmth, helpfulness and efficiency of the people of the Renaissance. Every interaction was positive, from the warm welcome to our daily needs to our farewell.
The facility is in outstanding condition, clean, comfortable, up to date. The designers thought of everything, including electric sockets that accommodate US electronics.
But it's the people who make the Renaissance the place to stay in Santiago.
David, Diego, Walter and Sabastian are amazing concierges. Nothing is too much to ask and every request is handled efficiently and with a smile. A bit of Halloween fun in the Lobby was a nice touch! The pre-arrival welcome email asking what we might need upon our arrival or anticipate during our stay is a touch that sets the tone for what one can expect at the hotel.
Also downstairs, Ana, Standler, Ambrosio, Guido and Fernando were always welcoming and ready to help.
I cannot say enough about Monica and Nuria in the Executive Lounge. Always pleasant, they are both "stars" in my book. Once Nuria knew that I drank decaf, she made sure it was available when I walked in every morning. Monica anticipated my nightly bedtime cup of tea and saw that there was milk ready. When each of them found out it was my husband's birthday, they did something to celebrate. After breakfast, Nuria had a fancy cupcake sent up with a candle and she and the other navigator ( so sorry I can't remember his name) sang happy birthday in both English and Spanish. In the evening, Monica came over and said happy birthday to my husband and quietly arranged to have an evening dessert and bottle of wine sent to our room. How lovely of each of them!! Both of them are learning English ( quite quickly and well) and were very interested and helpful in my quest to learn Spanish. Monica suggested the app Duolingo and I continue to work at it! The lounge was always neat, clean and well stocked. Any request was honored quickly and with a smile!
The housekeeping staff were pleasant and the room and hallways were kept very clean. Laundry was picked up and delivered timely and pleasantly.
We experienced very positive interactions with Camillo, Faith, Fernando, Alexis, Andrea and many others in the Cattae restaurant.
Unfortunately, I cannot remember the names of everyone, but rest assured we appreciated...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed a week during August 2016 for vacation. I travel a lot, and I must say the Renaissance Santiago's staff and hotel experience exceeded all expectations. A great stay starts with great staff, and the staff, from the doormen, the check in, the concierge/navigators, the lounge attendants, housekeeping, the restaurant, management and the bartenders all went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Any help, any request and any courtesy was extended with a smile.
The hotel is newish, modern and well styled. The room was nice, had a great view, and was both functional and comfortable.
The 12th floor lounge made the stay. Breakfast had more variety of food than anyone could think of eating. Fresh squeezed juices, fresh rolls and pastries, coffee made to order, meats and cheeses, eggs, bacon, potatoes, cereals... it's goes on and one. Dinner was no different, with 5 types of red and 2 or 3 types of wine available without charge, multiple desserts and snacks, and various offerings. One night, there was a pisco tasting, and another, a ceviche demonstration by the chef from Catae.
The Catae restaurant was also a nice surprise. The menu at first appearance is odd given the entree names, but in a nice way. Maybe the names make more sense in Spanish. The food and drinks were excellent.
The location is a +/-. Downtown Santiago or many of the locations to visit are about 10/15 minutes by taxi/car, longer during rush hours. The metro station is a 15 minute walk, and if the weather is nice, is no issue. It's actually very easy to get to many of the destinations by metro. A large and modern shopping mall is about a 10 minute walk away. Several nice restaurants and bicentennial park are are 10-20 minutes by foot.
Again, best of all was the staff: Walter the navigator, Carlos the manager, Carlos the bartender all went out of their way to meet any needs. My Spanish is bad/rusty at best, and they always had patience when I tried. Give everyone was fairly fluent in English, we had not trouble communicating even when I spoke Spanish.
I wavered between the Marriott, a short distance down the road, and the Renaissance, when I was deciding where to stay. The Marriott is much larger, but I heard the lounge was nicer at the Renaissance. I can't speak for the Marriott, but I can safely say I feel I made the right choice to stay at the...
