My BIL had made the reservation for 9pm on a Tuesday, it was his birthday, and his sister's, my wife's birthday too. Hugo ordered a pisco sour, and his wife, my wife, and I shared a bottle of their J. Bouchon extra brut Chilean spumanti. The Cathedral pisco sour was rich, creamy, and very tasty. The sparkling wine was initially a bit acid, but that soon blew off to reveal a dry, crisp bubbly, sure to stand up to the well spiced foods of The Majestic. We decided to order an array of dishes and share them all. First up was the Seek kebab, made of ground lamb. I was initially disappointed that fresh lamb cubes were not used, but fear not, the kebabs were soft, juicy, tender, and very flavourful from the spices fully distributed within. There was no noticeable crunchy sear on the kebabs, just all over yummy goodness. Flavourful, not particularly piquant, exuding the tastes and aromas of the myriad spices working in unison. This was my favorite dish of the evening, and I think there was consensus at our table. Next up was another lamb dish that I also chose, (I am partial to lamb). The lamb Sunehri, with almonds, coconut and saffron, had an intriguing delicate flavour. The lamb cubes were of the highest quality devoid of fat and gristle, easily disected with a fork. This dish suffered in comparison to the kebabs, and from reading the menu descriptions I should have thought to sample the Sunehri first, but we were engaged in an Indian shared tapas fest, approaching the dishes as they appeared from the kitchen. We had the peas pulaw to absorb the sauces of the dishes, and Naan to cradle kebabs with. The rice was perfectly cooked long grain aromatic with the peas adding their burst of sweet richness. The Naan had the perfectly stretchy, slightly gummy doughy texture with a mildly yeastiness overriding a tinge of bitterness from the blackened spots that had been in close contact with the tandoor. The Prawns Afghani were a revelation in their rich, white, creamy almond and cardamom sauce, subtle yet not underseasoned. The prawns were smaller, (perfectly bite-sized), cooked to a perfect firmness and infused with the flavours of the sauce. This dish competed with the lamb seekh kebab for first place of space on my plate. I could be accused of being un-veganitarian, so here are just a couple of words on the verduras. The spinach and mushroom dish was surprisingly creamy, without the apparent addition of cream or paneer, smooth and rich, spreading across the palate, with mildly bitter and sweet notes until a slice of mushroom finds it's way between your molars to offer a burst of oh so pleasing umaminess and contrasting rubbery texture. The murgh Tikka masla was cubes of chicken in a rich tomato and dairy creamy red-orange hued sauce. The chicken was tender and fork soft, infused with vibrant spices including fenugreek, cardamom and ginger. Very tasty indeed! Our very attentive, helpful and friendly waiter, (Alex?) did refill refill our spumanti glasses when needed and bring out replenishment pisco sours upon request. He also brought out a very small bowl of salsa masala. The salsa was a disappointing one note fiery capsaicin bomb, with no redeeming flavours or even saltiness. Surprising considering the myriad sauces, chutneys, sambols etc. that incessantly inhabit tables across the Indian sub continent. Towards the end of the meal Alex brought out a postre Cumpleaños, a carrot based circle of redness with a burning candle in the middle. Alex with two similarly black attired buddies sang happy birthday, punctuated with micro cymbal chime rings. RATINGS: Service - 5 stars, thank you, Alex Food - 5 stars, rich, flavourful, excellent Ambience - 5 stars, low yet sufficient lighting. Gentle background music, easy to converse. Majestic -...

My wife and I have been missing good Indian food ever since we moved to Santiago more than a year ago. I have tried a few places and found everything to be just ok, and usually quite bland compared to Indian (a bit like going to an Indian lunch buffet in the USA - edible but not as rich as you would get in India and certainly not as picante). I had heard good things about Majestic but we really need to make an effort to go to either location since there are so many good restaurants within easy walking distance (e.g., 20-30 minutes) that we need to overcome a bit of inertia to go outside our radius of comfort. I'm so glad we did. Everything about the experience was great. My wife had the murgh makhanawala which was probably the best of its kind I've ever tasted. I had the rogan josh which was delicious and, as I requested, quite hot. The mango lassi was delicious. The garlic naan was good but not overpowering. They had a tempting array of Indian desserts but we were too full to try any - in fact I was too full to eat dinner that night, even after a 45-minute walk back to our apartment. Great experience - we will...

I was dining alone and had the Murgh Tikka starter. A great portion and very tasty indeed. I waited once I had finished and then decided I would have the chicken biryani. I wanted to order a small portion of any sort of curry sauce to throw over the biryani. The waiter said we don’t do sauce! I’m pretty sure they have a big pot of sauce in the kitchen!! The waiter could have, at the very least, asked the chef. Anyway, I decided to get the cheque in the end and pay the bill which included a 10% tip!! I asked them to take the tip off the bill as zi felt the waiter could have tried a little harder re the sauce. Great food, nice ambience but if you want a tip, it doesn’t come for free, you need to earn it! Would go back...
