Al Dente — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience at this restaurant. While the male waiter was attentive and courteous, the service from the three female staff members was surprisingly poor.

When one of them came to inform us about the soup and pasta of the day, I politely asked her to repeat herself. She responded with a blank, indifferent expression that felt unnecessarily cold. Later, I requested an extra plate for sharing, but she didn’t acknowledge the request verbally. Instead, she handed me a cup saucer—clearly not suitable, and noticeably different from the bread plate. To make matters worse, the saucer had visible dirt marks on it, which was both unhygienic and disrespectful. It felt intentionally dismissive.

Toward the end of the meal, I asked for the dessert included in my lunch set. She returned with two plates of dessert. When we clarified that we had only ordered one lunch set and one à la carte dish, she silently removed one plate and a spoon within seconds—again, with the same emotionless look.

Highly Disappointed with My Recent Visit

I recently visited this restaurant for a meal with a friend, and I must say I was thoroughly disappointed with the experience.

First, I had ordered a side of mashed potatoes, which the server claimed they had run out of. However, I later noticed my friend's meal did come with a serving of mashed potatoes, which left me feeling quite frustrated that my request was denied.

Secondly, the air conditioning in the restaurant seemed to be non-functional. The dining area was uncomfortably warm, and I could not enjoy my meal due to the stifling heat.

To make matters worse, I also noticed a dripping sound coming from what appeared to be a leaky faucet or pipe. This only added to the sense of disrepair and low standards within the establishment. Disturbingly, at one point the dripping water even landed directly on my food, further ruining my dining experience.

Overall, I left this restaurant feeling deeply unsatisfied with the service, quality, and general state of the facilities. I had high expectations going in, but they were not even remotely met. Their stern warning against using the "OpenRice" app for bookings, despite its discontinuation five years prior, was a true display of their dedication to customer service. It was an educational moment to learn that any bookings made through the app would be ignored, much like my own.

However, I need not have worried, for the responsible personnel was quick to provide an ad-hoc arrangement for a table in the farthest corner of the establishment.
