Barista Jam Review ☕
Experience the finest varieties of coffee in the world at Barista Jam in Sheung Wan.
The entrance to their premises was not apparent, so I walked past it the first time. The dark grey exterior blended with the neighbouring environment. It looked charming now that I think of it.
Upon entering the cafe, you're greeted with a mini outdoor seating area and a busy display window filled with coffee equipment.
Stepping in, you immediately feel the ambience with the dim studio lighting and light jazz music playing in the background.
Metal clanks from the coffee equipment, steam machine hissing, clinking glassware and clanking utensils. The overall atmosphere feels like an ASMR experience.
[Steak and Mushroom Sandwich with Salad] by Barista Jam
Fresh cherry tomatoes, sourdough, beef, red onion, brown mushrooms and mixed salad greens.
The salad filled the plate and was dressed with my favourite dressing - balsamic vinegar; they were generous with it too. I love how it tingles my taste buds.
The brown mushrooms and steak were seasoned lightly with mixed spices and had a smoky aroma. The mushrooms were earthy, light and chewy. The sourdough was soft and fluffy. It's a simple dish, but it did the job.
[Jamaica Clifton Mount Estate Blue Mountain No.1 Hand-drip Coffee] by Barista Jam
Exceptional quality, clean and velvety.
Presented in a clear glass carafe, with a glass cup and information card. Points for the visuals.
Easily one of the cleanest cups of coffee I've had. It's a Typica variety with tasting notes of clove, roasted almonds, vanilla, black currant, butter, and black tea.
The cup was brewed perfectly, had a hint of sweetness, and was rich with nuanced flavours; it left me dreaming about my next trip.
Overall, I highly recommend their hand-drip coffee.
See you next time, Barista Jam!

Read moreBarista Jam relocated to another shop along Jervois since the last time I visited. They are now at 97 Jervois Street, right next to On Time Coffee Shop. This is very near their old place at 126-128 Jervois Street. Opening hours are 8am to 6pm (Tues to Friday), 10am to 6pm (Mon, Sat) and 11am to 6pm (Sundays).
The newer shop has a much larger indoor seating area, a similar coffee list to their old place and a focused light bite food menu. During my recent visit, I ordered a Flat White that was expectedly milky with faint espresso taste. Overall, not bad but worth ordering an extra espresso shot if you want a stronger coffee drink.
I also ordered the bacon & egg sandwich, a serving of sliced baguette with strips of nicely fried bacon and egg. This was a light, simple and fairly good order, served up quickly and tasted as expected.
Overall, not a bad showing from Barista Jam, one of quite a few coffee shop and cafes that are now found along...
Read more5 stars for the owner and the staff's passion and persistence in serving high quality coffee. Their passion shows through the beans they use and sell and the way coffee is brewed. The single origin beans are the best value in Hong Kong. No they do not sell online, can only buy in person. The beans are medium roasted and good for home brewing. I love that they keep their espresso machine very clean and as the result the espresso coffee come out are rich and full of flavors. This place is a coffee nerd's expression of a coffee heaven - no gimmicks, simple decor, serving only good quality espressos and hand drips. All the resources are placed to maximize the quality of coffee served. The pastas are good, they have breakfasts menu available all day upon requests. For people like me who just want a good cup of coffee and a space to chill and read, this is the place. There's a reason why Barista Jam still stands in Sheung Wan after...
