Cafe Zense — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

I will leave a zero star if possible. I have went to this restaurant for nearly 10 years and always bring along with me a lot of my friends. I made a booking on Dec 29, 2022, at 19:00. Arrived early at 18:38 with the whole restaurant empty. The waitress told me that there’s a 90min limit on seating time. I asked her if it starts immediately. If yes, then I go down and wait for my friend. She said there’s no need and that she can count it from my booking time at 19:00. She said she can also give me a buffer time until 20:45. My friend arrived at 18:55 and we ordered our meals and drinks. We had a great time and was planning to order our desserts and 2nd drink when the same waitress came storming over yelling at us to pay and leave immediately because time is up and somebody is waiting for the table. It is 19:45. I asked her how is that possible since I made the booking at 19:00 and if there’s 90-min seating time, the next table will be 20:30. And even if it’s counting from when I sat down, only 67 mins has passed. She interrupts me when I try to clarify by screaming and yelling at me such that the whole restaurant is looking at her. I asked her if I can at least finish my dinner and drink. She refused and repeatedly hurry us to leave every 10sec. We finally left at 19:55. When we left the restaurant, there’s no one waiting and one other empty table. It is normal in HK to be hurried away if you go to the infamous Lin Heung Kui or Australia Dairy Company, but even these two restaurants have better service than Cafe Zense. 1️⃣𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐕𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐇𝐊𝐃 𝟏𝟒𝟖⭐️ 香煎慢煮比目魚柳 🎣🍋Tender Halibut that was smothered in a pommery and lemon sauce, which enlivened the sweet fish flavour even further. The Halibut fillet is a great option if you are looking for a light lunch.💛

2️⃣𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐕𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐊𝐃 𝟏𝟒𝟖 香煎慢煮加拿大黑毛豬鞍扒 Juicy, tender and perfectly grilled pork rack. The flavour of the pork was rather plain, but the blend of blueberry balsamic sauce topped was wonderful. 🐷🫐💙

3️⃣𝐃𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐇𝐊𝐃 𝟏𝟑𝟖 雙層吉列魚柳漢堡伴粟米他他醬 -🌽Their fires definitely stand out as favourite because of the ultra crispness of the exterior and a fluffy interior. Although the sweet corn tartar sauce was quite appetising, the fish fillet was slightly overcooked.🍔🍟

4️⃣𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐇𝐊𝐃 𝟔𝟖⭐️ 香草蜜燒雞翼 Well-seasoned and nicely coated with honey, I simply cannot resist those tender chicken meats and crispy skins🤤💗(6 chicken wings per dish🥺 only)

5️⃣𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐚 𝐓𝐨𝐟𝐮 𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐞 𝐇𝐊𝐃 𝟓𝟐⭐️ 抹茶豆腐 🍵🥰It was absolutely silky and creamy because the tofu and matcha were perfectly blended together. Naturally sweet and utterly delicious💚

6️⃣𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐞 𝐇𝐊𝐃 𝟓𝟐 芒果乳酪沙冰 I personally believe tofu pairs better with smoothie instead of yogurt because of its creamy and silky texture. The yogurt smoothie was very thick, giving a refreshing mango flavour.🥭

Highly recommend to not try Cafe Zense despite have good reviews on Open Rice (about 500 smiles). Very disappointing customer service and food quality which makes the number of satisfactions very odd and misleading to potential customers.

Reasons Why: poor customer service rushed the staff for entree which was an onion soup but still had to wait 30 minutes for it. when it came the soup was not hot, it was only mildly warm. ordering food was disorganised as waitresses got confused with different orders a salmon dish and pasta took one hour to arrive at the table very slow service of food so if you are in a rush do not visit this restaurant staff did not have fast thinking and very disorganised with everything meaning that inadequate training was given

poor food quality chicken was not fresh and had a off taste onion soup like drinking water and bread was soggy and soaked into the soup hamburger was average but not worth the price as I've tried many other better ones for the same price
