From the start, staff rushed us - clearing plates quickly, pushing dessert and the bill, and saying they needed the table for another reservation. This was confusing because there were plenty of empty tables (only 4 tables occupied), and other parties who arrived when we did weren’t treated the same way. If there’s a time-limit policy, it wasn’t communicated clearly or applied consistently. A staff member (phillipino lady) first approached us with the bill, with small actions (picking up table napkins, trying to take away our drinks) that indirectly told us to leave. Then the male manager comes, saying we have to leave. Rather than signalling us to move, they just told us to leave. For parties that arrived in the same time as us, they certainly did not recieve the same treatment, and were still there. And even so, there are plenty of empty tables with a window view that could be assigned if the so called party has already arrived. It sad to see this restaurant still has a strong racial discrimination and preferential treatment in this day and age in Hong Kong. On seeing 1 instead of the 2 hash browns last time, we simply asked why. Here was what I got from the chef himself:
I was told loud and clear, at my table, that he designed the menu, so I must be wrong to assume there should be 2 hash browns just like everything else;
That I was "just lucky" to have got 2 just 2 days before;
He offered to give another hash brown. Free I assume? It's a darn piece of potato, and nobody ever discussed cost;
It never came;
He however didn't forget to put it on the bill. HKD20. For real? One hash brown?
He then cancelled the item, only for me to discover from the bill itself. All without a word to the guy waiting for it. Just marvelous wouldn't you say?
The waiting staff topped it with charging for coffee AFTER specifically confirming it comes with breakfast. So to say the least, we were confused.
Some mix up is evitable, but some simple, professional if I might add, words could have easily made the experience much better. But unless I'm in the mood for more lessons from the staff in front of other guests, I'll make sure to skip...
