I recently visited a Japanese ramen shop in Wan Chai. I had the pleasure of trying their Lemon Ramen and pan-fried dumplings.
I arrived at the shop at around 1 pm and was pleased to only wait for 10 minutes for a table. The shop was cozy and could accommodate about 20 people. The atmosphere was reminiscent of a classic Japanese ramen shop, complete with wooden furniture and minimalistic décor.
Now, onto the food. The Lemon Ramen was an interesting twist on the classic dish, and I was pleased to find actual lemon slices in the bowl. The soup was light and refreshing, with a tangy kick from the lemon. The broth was not too salty and had a well-balanced flavor.
The noodles were cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of firmness and elasticity. I was impressed with the quality of the noodles, as they held up well in the broth and did not become overly soggy.
The pan-fried dumplings were also delicious, with a crispy exterior and juicy filling. They were a great accompaniment to the ramen.
Overall, I would highly recommend this Japanese ramen shop in Wan Chai. The Lemon Ramen was a unique and flavorful dish, and the atmosphere of the shop was cozy...
Read moreThe food was decent until I started chewing on a piece of black plastic. That piece of black plastic was hidden in the kikurage or wood ear mushroom. You can actually see the shape of it in the picture I took before I started eating lol. Started to observe a bit more of the food preparation and prep cooks once that happened and was not surprised at how that piece of plastic got in there.
Expected it to be better after hearing and seeing all the good reviews lol. Was disappointed not only with the food but the lack of courtesy too, a family did not want to sit next to me as if I had a virulent disease and the server kept pushing me off to the side to appease them. I moved the first time since the server asked, the second time the server then moved my belongings over without explicitly asking me to move further down with my belongings.
Interesting experience, can find better service and cheaper...
Read moreA bowl of comforting ramen is the best hangover cure. Ichitora in Wanchai specializes in Hakata style ramen. The restaurant is always busy during lunch hours. Today we standed in the queue for about 20 mins before getting inside.
An ice old beer was exactly what I needed after standing in the heat to wait. Gyoza was served quickly upon order. Always the perfect ramen companion. Tried two different flavors of their soup base. Ichitora, as their signature tonkotsu soup, had a rich texture and was salted just right. The tender charsiu slices had a fair amount of fat. the ajitsuke tamago was well marinated, custardy and jammy. Black Tora - the standard soup base with fragrant black garlic oil plus wakame, was also served boiling hot.
They also provide vegan ramen which is a rare option that not many ramen...
