My favourite ramen place in NYC is Ippudo and when I googled for ramen place while in HK, this popped up right beside my hotel!! Got to try it!!
Went in and was immediately seated by a smiling waitress. Gave me the menu and after couple of minutes, came around and explained a little as well. Actually the menu was full of items which you don't see in NYC restaurants. Even the Ramen noodles are served in few different textures ( extra hard, hard, medium, normal, soft). Off to a good start!!
Ordered a ramen dish which stated that is spicy. I thought I can up the anti and went for the "Most Spicy" option. The ramen bowl came very quickly. Tasted the broth before I mix the spicy ball that was in it. The broth tasted very nice, well salted, well balanced and could get a strong and deep taste from it. Loved the thin noodles. Mixed up everything and then tasted it!! Wow!! It was spicy!! Hit me hard and I was happy I ordered an ice cold coke... the ramen was very nice. The only thing I missed here was the pork in the ramen was not like the one you get in NYC. It was not torched ( I think in NYC they blow torch the pork in the ramen which kind of char it and gives a nice taste!!) or chard which kind of lacked the flavour.
Overall it was a very nice experience. If I had to rate one over the other, would definitely pick the NYC...
Read moreIf you like ramen, this could be the place. You have choices of hardness for the noodles. And for some menu items, you can pay a small extra for 替玉, meaning you can ask for additional portion of noodles (supposed to have no limits but I doubt most would ask more than 2). This is good for teens who needs lots of carb.
In busy hours, prepare to queue for 20 - 30 minutes. They won't let you in unless most of your party are there, which I think is a good policy.
Because of the additional choices (set or not, hardness, 替玉or not), it could be intimidating in rush hours because you don't want to hold up the waiters/waitress who seem bothered if you ask too many questions or don't know how to order. I should have given a 4 stars if it...
Read moreThis place seems to be quite crowded during the week, but we went on Mid Autumn and it was of course quite empty, with most patrons being foreigners like me. Therefore the place was unusually quiet and cozy. No idea how it compares to normal days, but I've seen long queues at lunch time.
This restaurant really specializes in ramen, with very few other side dishes. We ordered a bowl of ramen in tonkatsu soup, a slow cooked pork salad (really good), and the fried chicken. The portions are ok in size and price.
I also had a very yummy passion fruit tea, and a rooibos tea pudding.
It is neat that you can order online after scanning the qr code on you tab. And you can get points using their app.
I will definitely...
