First, La Vache means “The Cow” in French, so herbivores need not cometh. This French restaurant is as advertised: entrecôte (French for ribeye, but directly translated as “between ribs”) cooked to a perfect medium or medium rare. We weren’t given any other options, so if you like your “between ribs” cooked any other way, you might be out of luck. The meal started with some French style baguette and beurre doux (soft butter), but it was kind of rock solid. Not a big deal. It was imported from France and from Paysan Breton, so I get it. Next was a walnut salad, which was enjoyable. It was a great second course if you count bread as a first course. After the walnut salad, we got our entrecôte, served at medium and medium rare. The temperate was perfect. “The Cow” also advertises an unlimited amount of French Fries, but I question this a little since there was 90 minute time-limit at our table. Still, we had a plentiful amount of fries. I had read previous reviews about the fries being too salty and lets just say, they were a bit on the salty side. Still edible though. During our steak dinner, I asked for more walnut salad, but was told there would be an extra charge. The server said they could probably get one to me for free. I did not accept as I did not want to jeopardize their position. After we crushed our main course, we notice that there was a dessert trolley making its way around the restaurant and we wanted to take full advantage of this. I was kind of disappointed that they did not have croquembouche (puff pastry wrapped in stringed sugar), but the mille-feuille was decent. We also had the lemon meringue pie, which I thought was a strange choice for a French restaurant since lemon merengue pie originated from America (Philadelphia, actually). It was also decent. Overall, the experience at “The Cow” was pleasant. One thing I did not approve of was there was a smoking cow on their placemat (as seen in the picture) which might further the stereotype that the French smoke a lot. Quatre sur cinq étoiles!

<Steak, Fries, Dessert and More!> La Vache! is famous for their good quality steak, and for me, it’s probably their unlimited refill of fries! The meal began with this Green salad with walnuts, also with unlimited refill. Since I am not a veggie person, I finished this plate of fresh and delicious salad and asked for no more to save tummy space for the great steak and fries. Love the walnuts, as well as the light and refreshing dressing. And here comes the Trimmed entrecote steak “La Vache!” with special house sauce. It was so so good and definitely live up to its fame! I opted for medium rare, while my friend opted for medium well. The steak was so tender and meaty! I love how juicy the steak was, and the special house sauce definitely worked its magic to make the steak supreme! Amazing! I forgot to take a picture of the thin fries, as they were so good that I couldn’t stop myself from digging in! My friend and I were wondering what was the seasoning powder on the fries that make the fries so comforting and addictive! Point to note, don’t overfill your stomach with delicious fries (like me), remember to save some space for dessert! As they are very delicious and come in huge American portion! My friend and I chose two different desserts to share. This one with hazelnut and nutella definitely got our heart! Its flavor was so rich and satisfying! This lemon tart had a mixed taste, with a very sweet top and sour citric base. Nevertheless, it’s a great dessert. I would definitely love to visit La Vache! again for the great food (fries :P). I can see why my expat colleagues like it so much now.

We recently dined at La Vache on Peel Street. This is a causal Parisian style steakhouse which specialises in entrecôte steak served with salad and fries. Opening hours are 12-2.30pm (lunch) and 6pm to late (dinner) each day. Unfortunately, our recent meal was disappointing. We arrived on a Sunday at 5.45pm and were first in queue for dinner seating. By opening time, there were around 20 people in queue. As such, if you want to dine as a walk-in, best to arrive early for first seating. Upon being seated, you will be informed that you have 90 minutes to finish your meal so they can turn tables over. Other than that service is polite and timely throughout. Seating is nice but casual, any dress code goes. Walls are adorned by fun images of Paris landmarks. During our meal we found the salads and fries to be more or less the same as in the past. Wine ordered was fine and we very much enjoyed their signature Paris Brest dessert as we have in the past. As for our steaks, the entrecôtes were ordered medium rare but served rare to medium rare. That was ok with us. Unfortunately, both steaks were bland and rather flavourless this time around. They were nothing like the succulent and flavourful entrecôte served to us in the past. As such, we left dinner this time around with reason for concern regarding quality of the beef being served day in, day out at La Vache. In the end, we were disappointed with our meal at La Vache. When you only serve one item on the menu, you really need to get it right. Unfortunately, La Vache didn't measure up this time around so we'll probably give them a break for a while.

My partner and I had the pleasure of dining at La Vache! a few weeks ago during our trip to Hong Kong. We visited for the first time one evening and were simply blown away by the atmosphere and warm service that we simply had to return a second time before leaving back home. For starters, the food is delicious. The steaks are cooked amazingly and kept warm with a candle as you made your way through (unlimited!) chips paired with a crisp radish salad. Not to mention, the table bread was deliciously warm and salty. The food is well seasoned and fresh, if you’re after a French steak experience that’s not only delicious but also incredible value for money, this is the place to go. La Vache! also sells a house wine of theirs which we highly recommend pairing with your meal, it’s a fruity and robust Bordeaux that rivalled our wines back in Australia. For desserts, we had a Lemon Meringue and Mille-Fuille and both were presented perfectly. A delightful balance of gentle sweetness, crunch, and cream. A perfect way to cap off an equally delicious main. Though what really made the experience incredible was the service from Namsen and his team. We felt very welcomed and enjoyed great conversation with them as we spent our evenings there. If you’re looking for a place in Hong Kong that has delicious food, a team with heart and endless hospitality, and a beautiful atmosphere - look no further than La Vache! Thank you to Namsen and your team for making our experience an unforgettable one. We’ll be back!

Went to this French resto with my friends to celebrate her end of semester. . We ordered the menu set, which consisted of Green Salad with Walnuts, Trimmed Entrecote Steak and French Fries. The salad was fresh and the walnuts added to the texture. With the yuzu vinegar, the salad tasted sweet and sour, which enhanced one's appetite. We ordered the Trimmed Entrecote Steak cooked to medium rare. Served with their special house sauce, Bernaise sauce, the steak was meticulously seasoned. It was tender and paired well with the sauce. A candle was placed below the plate to ensure the steak stay warm. The French Fries were unlimited. They were quite crispy, but a bit salty for me. We then got Mille Feuille for dessert. Displayed delicately, the dessert had a balanced layers of crunchy puff pastry and cream. Each bite was delightful. . It was a bit strange that their manager gave us a different last order time, which confused us. Additionally, it was amusing that the waiter kept asking if we wanted a refill of fries, even though our plates were already filled with fries😂.

Pleasant Surprise at La Vache Soho Having been a long-time resident of Hong Kong, I have frequented La Vache Soho and Admiralty locations over the years, despite some past disagreements with the Black Sheep Group. However, yesterday's dinner at La Vache Soho was a pleasant surprise. Despite previously avoiding it due to personal reasons as well as the loud music and hectic atmosphere, I was pleased with the changes. From the moment we walked in until we were seated, my wife, two friends, and I received a warm welcome and friendly service. The food, as always, was delicious, with the fries being my standout favorite. While the Black Forest dessert was tasty, it did not quite match up to the quality I am accustomed to from my German-speaking roots. What stood out the most was the subdued background music, a departure from the disco-like atmosphere of past visits. We did not feel rushed and were able to enjoy a leisurely 90-minute dinner. Overall, it was an enjoyable evening with good food and a more relaxed ambiance. Thanks to La Vache's Soho team.
