Presentation 6/10 Effective but rather simple presentation. Lack of artistic intent, but organized and composed. Fits the food well. Presentation of the condiments was quite dreadful.
Taste 11/20 Noodles were excellent, were cooked to a nice consistency and the texture was soft and tender. Beef tripe, tendons, brisket tasted great with a rich meaty flavour. The soup had a variety of fragrant herbs which gave a depth and complexity to the noodles and meat; one comment would be that it was a tad bit too sweet. The beef balls, however, were a total disaster. I'm not sure if they froze it or just left it out too long, but the taste was off and I couldn't bite into it - it felt like biting into plastic.
In terms of the curry, it was a total let-down. The curry was extremely runny and reminiscent of watered down curry powder, devoid of any complex flavour profile. Disappointing to see its Indian subcontinent origins leading to this dish. The beef was done nicely though slightly dry without much flavour. Although, the curry did complement the beef nicely. The vegetables in the curry really did not do it for me. The peppers were confusing and the potatoes were tough. Overall, the dish was cute but would be better used as animal feed.
Portion Size 4.5/5 Hearty portion size, much larger than other vietnamese restaurants such as BEP. Guaranteed to feel full after just one bowl. If you don't have a particularly large appetite, we suggest you share one between two people.
Atmosphere 3.5/5 Extremely creative and virtuous atmosphere which snuggly fits the locomotive theme; however, the music just isn't doing it for us. Good seating but nothing very special.
Service 3/5 Food came quickly, and every request was met. However, while staff did respond quickly to requests they were not super amicable. There was no conversation, no asking about the quality of the food and generally a lacklustre attitude.
Price 4/5 Amazing value given portion size. Great place to go if you want to feel full but don’t want to break the...
Read more"Cockroach Falls from the Sky! | No Apologies Throughout!" Thinking of supporting small businesses and Hong Kong's economy, tonight I went to Wun Sha Street for dinner. On the evening of April 2nd, at the Locomotive Contemporary Vietnamese Cuisine (Wun Sha Street), while eating, suddenly a cockroach fell from the sky and landed on my friend's body (chest area). In a state of panic and confusion 🤯🤯🤯😱😱😱, the affected person, myself, and the male patron at the neighboring table immediately jumped up and left our seats.
After several calls for assistance, one of the male waiters came forward to help search for and deal with the cockroach. Eventually, the waiter discovered that the cockroach had crawled into the affected person's handbag. He took thehandbag out and carried it to the side of the kitchen counter, forcing the cockroach to come out, and then immediately crushed it on the spot.
Throughout the incident, the manager showed no reaction and did not apologize. 🤬🤬🤬
The affected person and I completely lost our appetite, so we...
Read moreThis was my first family experience in Hong Kong. My friend's family took me here to celebrate. I was excited because the restaurant looks great. They have decorations that are like the inside of a train. The walls are high and looks very clean. Their menu is large, with different types of food to choose from. I really enjoyed most of the food. We ordered the garlic bread, and after 2 people ate some, we noticed green mold growing on the back side of the bread. It freaked some people out. The manager was apologetic. She offered to comp our dessert if we ordered any and discount our check. The rest of the food was fine. The desserts were really good. Their prices are high, but you get a fair amount of food, and the food tastes good. Aside from the mold on the bread, I would recommend this place if you want a nice sit down meal. It might be a more money, but you get what...
