Dough Kitchen has been on my to try list for quite some time. Since Elementary isn’t open on Monday, I got to try Dough Kitchen yesterday with my partner as a second option.
This house bread already set a high standard. The bread was warm and fluffy. What made them even better was the butter with truffle! Oh my goodness, it was so flavored and topped up the bread to another level of tastiness!
We were a bit disappointed when the waiter told us that “Warm Potato” in antipasti menu was sold out (it was 7:30pm). Yet, we got this amazing Seared Parma Ham Wrapped Hokkaido Scallop with Caviar. The parma ham was great! Not too salty and went well with the meaty, juicy and fresh scallops.
The caviar on potato definitely made up for the sold out “Warm Potato” for us. It was such a nice combination with a hint of olive oil and black vinegar. Yum!
We ordered this Tiger Prawn & Sakura Shrimp Tagiatelle to try out Dough Kitchen’s signature handmade pasta, and it did not disappoint! The pasta was al dente and so delicious with the sauce. There were quite a number of fresh tiger prawns in the pasta, and we could also taste the tiny sakura shrimp. Every thing was just right to the point to make this dish really enjoyable!
We also gave the pizza a try. As cheese lovers, we picked this Formaggio Pizza which was made with 4 types of cheese - Camenbert, Buffalo, Gorgonzola and Mozzarella cheese. This pizza was crazily delicious!!! Even though the cheese was melted together, we could still taste the distinguishing flavour of each cheese. What’s more, the thin and crispy crust of the pizza definitely got our hearts, as we are not thick pizza fans.
I wouldn’t mind visiting again with my friends to try out other...
Read moreTasty food but service leaves you wanting.
Made a booking two days prior. The next day, they called and said our booking was confirmed, having been moved off the waiting list. However, they had given no indication that we had been placed on a waiting list in the first place. If we were unlucky to have stayed on the waiting list, we would have turned up unknowingly on the day and be refused entry.
Once inside the restaurant, they tried to sit us right next to the entrace. Asked for a table further inside but was told "it was booked". Asked whether we can book specific tables and the waitor replied "actually it depends on what time the party arrives". Which made absolutely no sense seeing as I had already arrived and those were unoccupied tables.
Ended up sitting right next to front door. Ordered our food and asked for some water. The waitor gave us the option for still or sparkling water and refused to serve tap water. Again, preposterous for modest HK restaurant.
The sea urchin pasta tasted good and the beef cheek tagliatelle was very tender although the portions were quite small. I appreciate that they served both pasta dishes at the same time. However, the sea urchin pasta had noticibly gone cold alreadly.
Just before leaving, we witnessed that another party's reservation had been mischeduled by a whole hour.
Overall, the food tasted good but I am disappointed with the service and disorganized booking system. While there are other items on the menu I would like to try, I am not sure it is worth the...
Read moreDisappointing. With a name like dough kitchen which specializes in its own freshly made pasta, I left dissatisfied and disappointed. We ordered two pasta dishes one bolognese and one carbonara. The pastas were both overly thick, chewy and rubbery, which was also the consistency of the pancetta in the carbonara. The sauces had some flavour but we felt that was overcooked. Leaving a smokey burnt flavour, especially in their bolognese. Maybe it was the flavour they were going for, but not one I appreciated. Also, be aware that they do not serve table or tap water, which is a big pet peeve or mine. Tap water, which is very drinkable and clean in HK, (especially with an entry level filter) should be an option available for all customers. It's the most basic option any decent restaurant should have on offer. Not to mention the negative environmental impacts bottled water has. I know I eat meat, but allow me the choice to reduce a bit of my carbon and environmental (and moral) footprint in my meal, or at least not add to it. Finally, the atmosphere was not ideal. We were sat on the same table as another couple, while 60-70% of the restaurant was still empty. We could literally hear every word and I'm sure vice versa of what the other couple was saying. Making it hard to have a decent and relaxing conversation. The service was decent but for around $200 per pasta dish, you got to step up your game. We expected more and left...
