Underpass Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

Underpass, more like total-pass! Avoid. I felt like we were treated with total dishonesty here.

I normally only write reviews if it’s awesome. In this instance it was really bad and contrasts strongly with some of the other reviews here.

We came in for beers at happy hour, seeing a board outside with the prices. We ordered a Peroni at $58 (happy hour price) which we thought would be a great and decent price for a pint (similar to places in the area), however we were a little disappointed when we were served with half pints (apparently bottles - so why not serve it in the bottles so we know?). The staff said that they were Peroni bottles hence the smaller size. Fair enough, our bad. It didn’t say anywhere about the size of the beer, so not to worry, that was on us.

The staff understood we were unhappy about the beer size and said that they had Orion on tap for $68 if we preferred something larger. We ordered two Orions at $68 each and were served two of the tiniest beers, approx 250ml each. It felt like plain out dishonesty, when we were up-sold a more expensive beer for a same/smaller size. We could have had another Peroni for cheaper!! (or just left then). It was clear we wanted a larger beer and felt almost tricked. The staff understood this. Beers should be simple and easy, here it felt complicated. I took this up with the staff member but nothing came of it. As a reference point, a pint/500ml at classified is $60 at non happy hour prices…

We were going to eat dinner here (which seemed a little overpriced for the portion sizes) but we made the wise decided to leave and go somewhere next door which was much better and fairly priced.

Come on Hong Kong we love you, but you can do so much better with...

Really enjoyed our visit to Underpass Restaurant and Bar! The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting—the perfect spot to wind down after a long day. Staff were super friendly and attentive. We ordered some small bites: the momos and spicy wings. Was surprised (in a good way) to see momos on the menu—they came out steaming hot and tasted fresh and flavorful and the sauce paired very well with the momos.
