another popular study spot around hku, yet this is more on the pricey side of things. the catch of the day features greens doused in a butter sauce, mashed potatoes, charred lemon, and a fish fillet that changes everyday. sometimes its bass, sometimes its barramundi, sometimes its probably cod 😗flavor profile as a whole was really delicate and often overthrown by the lemon and the butter sauce, which didn't really allow the greens nor the fish to shine through with its natural taste 😔 maybe its because i squeezed too much lemon though.. would also say there's too much potato even.. the matcha latte definitely tastes better with oat as compared to soy, ridiculously creamy and smooth down the throat. staff are really attentive and friendly, fun too. the atmosphere is quite nice, compact and raises intimacy 🫶🏼 nice lighting with the windows, bit hard to study in since theres no wifi and the place can get a bit loud at times 😬 overall, not a bad place! would come again to try their sweet dishes.

For a new hipster cafe they have quite poor service. My wife and I stood waiting in the rain for 15 minutes because their QR code booking system didn't load properly, meanwhile they let 4 other tables in before her even though she was waiting first. Obviously it was too challenging to give us a table manually (you know, the normal way). Also the staff nearest us seemed to take mopping the floor more seriously that serving customers. At $158 for a fish burger (no fries) the food is probably on the expensive side, though to their credit it tasted fine and crispy! You'll need to ration your one sliver of lemon on the fish though. A heads up, order your coffee early, it'll take around 45 minutes to make it (for both of us for some reason). Also no ordinary milk option (even though it's in the menu), you will be automatically upsold to more hipster options of almond, soy or oat. Also reading through the rest of the reviews why do most of them sounds like paid reviews?...

South Lane in Shek Tong Tsui is a coffee shop and restaurant that promotes eating as nature intended. They prepare food with high-quality ingredients like free-range eggs and organic ingredients, without any MSG or additives. Visited in the afternoon to enjoy a slow and relaxing meal. Caesar Salad Fresh romaine lettuce with a soft-boiled egg tossed with parmesan cheese, garlic croutons and dill. Tangy and creamy dressing with a burst of flavor in each bite. Roasted Free-range Chicken Freshly grilled. Mildly seasoned to preserve the original chicken flavor. The meat was exceptionally tender and juicy while the skin was thin and crispy. The tomato sauce was extremely rich. Seared Hanger Steak Served medium. Succulent steak topped with refreshing chimichurri. The garlic fries were hot, crunchy and savory. Overall the food quality was outstanding and the food portions were generous. Fair prices and attentive service. Highly recommending South Lane if you're around Sai Wan!

Love their broccoli and cheese scones so I always go there to get a take away. Lately the service has been going downwards which has been slower and slower and this time it's the worst despite of the super slow service. I stood at the counter for 5 minutes while waving to a male staff who's local right at the cashier counter. I thought he saw me, without saying a word or giving me any notice by facial or body expression, I kept standing there for 5 more minutes and that's when I waved him again as I thought he probably didn't notice me. Then he got super angry and said "Oh, I am SORRY wor, I have to finish my thing here!" in a super annoying and grumpy tone. If he simply told me that "Give me a minute and I'll get back to you." then I would have known he already noticed about me and I can just wait for him to finish. I'm trying to support local restaurants but this is the least that our support should receive in return. I was there to grab some food, not to be dragged into a drama, so I simply left. The owner should review and improve their service if they want to continue...
