Teochew Bistro — Restaurant in Hong Kong

WARNING: DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT ANY KIND OF SERVICE.

My wife and I passed by this place past lunch time; around 2:30pm.

We noticed there wasn't a queue there, and decided to try it out. Immediately after we were seated we noticed there were a lot of tables with leftover cutlery and dishes, like there weren't enough staff.

After we made our order it was immediately apparent why: it was the staff's mealtime and a whole table (~8 of them at its peak) was seated at the very centre of the restaurant, right next to us. Leaving just the trainees (we knew as they were constantly given orders what to do) to deal with table clean up. The side effect of that is we were given ZERO service. No one poured tea, no one cared if our food arrived half an hour late.

Yes, we waited for 25 mins for a 43HKD bowl of seaweed soup with a measly 2 beef balls in it. A couple more minutes for a chilled green bean dessert.

The main dish, a marinated meats platter, took 40 mins to arrive. We had to ask the manager (twice) if they would uphold their service promise of 50% discount for any dish that arrived after 30 mins. He even tried to get out of it when we settled the bill.

Here's the rub: every single one of the staff who are having their meals, got their food before us. I understand that staff have to eat but it's apparent that they are taking up the kitchen's capacity. So paying customers will just have to wait.

The food here is decent, this place is overhyped with the ad and the queue. The service was good with kind and friendly staff. The Oyster Pancake was crispy outside and chewy inside with fresh fatty oyster. The congee has nice seafood in it but not enough taste. The fish was horrible with no taste or texture. The newly opened Chiuchow Chinese restaurant since the end of March this year is a good venue for Chinese chowchownese food. The food ingredients used were fresh and good. The service could be more proactive, especially they could change some of the plates and bowls with broken corners. Those may hurt the customers.
