Let me start by saying the food isn't the reason for the 1 star. The food was good but the whole experience was disastrous to the end. We spent around 2000 hkd, 4x xiao long Bai, starters, 2 pork chop rice , prawn rice, different tofu, the one with the crab row, vegetables and a sweet and sour spicy chicken for our foreign friend. There was 8 of us. Food came out in dribs and drabs and smfor some reason the vegetables came out last which by that time we had all almost finished leaving just 2 plates of vegetables with nothing to accompany them. This was less than ideal however this isn't the worst part. We place out order 8.44pm ,everything came in dribs and drabs except sweet and sour spicy chicken. We chased at 9.20pm, was told it was coming whilst we had rice that was getting cold that was suppose to be eaten with the dish. By that time we had all almost finished our food. 9.30pm still no chicken dish and I chased again annoyed as the one friend still hadn't eaten whilst the other 7 guest finished. The waitress said it's coming and we explained the rice was cold after waiting so long for the chicken. Rather than offer to warm it up or replace it she simply walked away hence I decided to speak to 'presumably the manager' who chased the dish for the third time. And I explained the about the rice getting cold. 9.40ish finally the chicken dish came out , and hour after ordering and 10mins after everyone finished their meal. Rather than replacing the rice fresh which had been waiting there for 45 mins for the chicken dish to accompany they simply microwaved it. This is not the standard I expect from din tai fung! Especially for your charges. As our friend ate along as the restaurant was closing it was very awkward eating alone when we planned a group dinner. I bought this to the attention of the manager when we payed. My friend mentioned that because of the service and experience for that dish he didn't expect to be charged for it. The manager patronisingly replied that you ate it how can we not charge. I said I didn't care if they charged or not but I wanted to make a formal complaint. How can a dish ordered at 8.44pm only come to the table at 9.45pm while everyone had finished!!!! Also how can you as servers not offer to replace the rice especially as it was bought to your attention it was cold. We chased 3 times for the chicken dish and the manager said we should have cancelled it implying it was our fault. Even just as a gesture we'd expect you to do something to comp for the fact that our guest ate alone even when we chased and was told each time it was coming. Finally the managers response was ok I've taken the chicken. Of the bill and apologised what do you want. By this I felt they were not taking responsibility and shouldn't have gotten to the point of annoyance and escalation. When a customer has to tell you and chase you 3 time on a dish ordered and hour ago and about cold rice the least I'd expect from a establishment such as don tai fung to to replace the rice fresh at the very least. The manager and. Service of a particular staff is sub par and I Def wouldn't entertain coming back. The rest of the staff was ok, no problem. 2000hkd later and an abysmal experience left worse by the manager arguing. To begin with and not taking the initiative to take accountability for the issue leave me to give 1 star no matter how good the food. If 7 people can eat and 1 person eats right at the end because staff cannot deliver one dish in 1 hour says alot about the restaurants standards. I wouldn't go to this one...

Din Tai Fung stands out as an internationally renowned Michelin one-star restaurant, delighting food enthusiasts with its authentic Taiwan-style dining experience. Among its myriad of delectable offerings, the Xiao Long Bao, a steamed pork dumpling, is an absolute must-try for visitors. This tantalizing dish embodies the perfect blend of flavor and texture, satisfying the discerning palate of even the most seasoned food connoisseurs.
To qualify as an exceptional Xiao Long Bao, several criteria must be met, and Din Tai Fung effortlessly fulfills them all. The presentation is exquisite, captivating diners from the moment the dumplings are set before them. The delicate, thin skin of the dumplings remains intact, ensuring they won't burst when picked up. With each bite, the dumplings release a burst of hot, savory soup, creating a truly memorable culinary experience. The temperature of the dumplings, as well as the overall dining experience, is meticulously maintained, enhancing the enjoyment of every guest. Additionally, the dumplings are conveniently sized to be consumed in one mouthful, further adding to the ease and enjoyment of the dining experience.
While the Xiao Long Bao takes center stage, the side dishes at Din Tai Fung are equally delightful. Another standout option is the steamed pork and vegetable dumplings, which offer a medley of flavors and textures that perfectly complement the main dishes.
Taiwanese-style noodle soup is another specialty of Din Tai Fung that has garnered significant acclaim. Diners have the option to savor the flavorsome broth with or without the addition of braised beef, allowing them to tailor the dish to their preferences.
However, not all dishes reach the same level of culinary excellence. The fried rice, while flavorful, falls short in terms of preparation. The use of short sticky Japanese rice lends a unique texture but could benefit from further refinement in the cooking process.
Din Tai Fung's menu is designed to cater to both locals and tourists, providing ease of ordering and understanding for visitors from around the world. Each food item is accompanied by a photograph, along with Chinese characters, Japanese, Korean, English, and a number code, making it accessible to a diverse range of diners. Furthermore, the restaurant prides itself on its exceptional service, with staff members responding promptly to guests' needs. The food preparation time is impressively short, ensuring that patrons are not kept waiting for long. It's worth noting that while the prices at Din Tai Fung may lean towards the higher end, the exceptional quality of the food and dining experience justifies the cost.
In conclusion, Din Tai Fung stands as a culinary gem, offering an unforgettable journey into the flavors of Taiwan. From the impeccable Xiao Long Bao to the tantalizing side dishes and comforting noodle soups, this renowned restaurant has mastered the art of Taiwanese cuisine. While some dishes may have room for improvement, the overall experience of dining at Din Tai Fung is a testament to its well-deserved reputation...
