Went there for dinner and oysters on a Friday night and it was one of my worst experience ever.
1/ Oysters and white wine that came with it- Not really fresh but I found it acceptable due to the reasonable price. But the waiter came and intended to collect the plate when there were still a few oysters on it... Without observing if the plate was empty..
2/ Salmon tartare that came with the dinner set- It was just salmon spread on top of a toast... Lol
3/ Baked escargot in cream sauce- Regular dish. Was the best dish from the whole meal ...
Nothing came after these dishes. We waited for like 15 mins for the soup to come and still got nothing. They were using digital device and computer system to take or track the orders but they always came back and asked what else we were expecting. I am really not sure how did they manage the orders coz they didn't know which of the dishes came and which ones were still missing. After a bit of clarification on the orders, we waited for another 15 minutes, one of the soup (lobster) finally came but my mushroom soup was still missing.
They intended to collect all the spoons after my friend finished with the soup and I had to stop the waiter and remind that my mushroom soup was still missing.
So the remaining stuffs came..
4/ Lobster soup- Tasted like canned soup (not sure if it was home made, unable to define)
5/ Mushroom and truffle soup- Nice home made soup
6/ Carbonara pasta- The presentation was awful. Pasta was cut into small short slices and the sauce was with a strange ginseng base. I felt it was totally weird...
7/ Foie Gras with grilled pork- Not bad, not overcooked, just right
8/ Creme Brulee for dessert- I couldn't recognize it was a Creme Brulee... It was presented and tasted more like an egg pudding. Very sweet..
The bill was around $820HKD. Honestly I was very disappointed with both the service and especially the food. I would rather spend a bit more for dinner at a proper restaurant elsewhere. Will definitely not...
Read moreGood and cheap breakfast. A Breakfast Reunion at a Hong Kong Classic
After a long hiatus, I recently revisited a beloved breakfast spot in Hong Kong that holds a special place in my heart. The fact that it weathered the storm of the pandemic made the experience even more meaningful. Here's a glimpse into why this restaurant left me yearning to return.
One of the first notable changes was the implementation of QR code self-ordering. In a city that thrives on a quick, fast, and cheap breakfast culture, this innovation significantly reduced the waiting time for service. Especially for a morning meal in Hong Kong, where time is of the essence, the efficiency brought about by this self-ordering system was a game-changer.
The attention to customer comfort was evident from the moment I took my seat. On the table, neatly arranged, were water, salt, sugar, jam, pepper, and tissue paper—all the essentials for a Hong Kong-style breakfast. No longer did I need to signal the ever-busy Hong Kong-style waiter for these items; instead, I could simply settle in and enjoy my meal in a cozy atmosphere.
What truly impressed me was the value for money. For a modest sum of thirty to forty dollars, I could relish a breakfast reminiscent of traditional tea restaurants in both style and quality. The comfortable seating and ambience, coupled with the added convenience of the self-ordering system, made the 10% service charge seem like a small price to pay.
In conclusion, my recent experience has rekindled my fondness for this breakfast spot, and I can't help but envision myself becoming a more frequent visitor. The perfect blend of efficiency, comfort, and affordability has re-established this eatery as a staple in my culinary adventures in Hong Kong. Here's to more delightful...
Read moreDining Experience at Marco's Oyster Bar & Grill: A Profound Disappointment
My recent visit to Marco's Oyster Bar & Grill left me deeply dissatisfied, as the experience fell far below expectations in both food quality and service.
I ordered a ribeye steak cooked medium rare, but what arrived was a steak closer to well-done, with uneven cooking and a texture that suggested improper defrosting. The steak was riddled with tough, inedible portions, making it nearly impossible to enjoy. To say the quality was subpar would be an understatement—it was worse than what one might expect from a casual diner in Jordan.
The service was equally disappointing. Our table, situated in a corner, was consistently overlooked by the server. The meal sequence was chaotic: the main course arrived before the oysters, which were part of the set. It seemed the server had forgotten about the oysters entirely, and when they finally arrived, one was missing from the promised five. We had to remind the staff to rectify the oversight.
The food quality across the board was lacklustre. The mushroom soup was excessively salty, the salad lacked freshness, and the lava cake was clearly a pre-made, refrigerated dessert rather than something freshly baked. These missteps highlighted a lack of attention to detail and care in the kitchen.
The sole redeeming aspect of the evening was the live music. The guitarist and singer provided a pleasant ambiance and lifted the mood, offering a brief respite from an otherwise underwhelming experience.
Overall, Marco's Oyster Bar & Grill failed to deliver on multiple fronts. With a rating of 1 out of 5, I cannot recommend this establishment based on my visit. Significant improvements are needed in both culinary execution and service to...
