This is one of those few award winning Restaurants in HK, that live up to their reputation and really serve an array of rather delicious Cantonese cuisines, especially their Dim Sum spread.
The restaurant was filled even on their first seating at 11am on a Monday when we last patronized them for brunch, but luckily, we did a reservation weeks before, else we could have been slapped with a long waiting time.
Enjoyed their Steamed Pork Dumplings With Fresh Scallop (Aka Siew Mai). Each dumpling had filling that was bursting with rich flavours, from a good mixture of minced pork, shrimp, mushroom and others. Texture was soft and slightly chewy overall. The Scallop on the top added a briny sea flavour.
Deep-Fried Taro Puffs With Assorted Seafood was well fried thus boasted a Crispy crust, yielding to soft, creamy and savory taro with seafood filling. It was good, but i preferred it with traditional fillings of just taro with mushrooms & cantonese sausage.
Wok-Fried Turnip Puddings with XO Sauce had strong umami flavours from dried shrimps and mushrooms, with good bite texture due to its crispy exterior and soft interior.
Fried Wontons With Sweet And Sour Sauce was one of my favourite dish. Loved the Perfectly fried thin crispy crunchy wonton skin and its shrimp filling.
Presserved Egg With Minced Pork Congee, which we were unable to find it listed in their menu, was ordered via the Service Staff. Its a good dish just like their Deep-Fried Custard Buns, but both were not impressive, even though they have all the elements (Flavours, Texture and balance of ingredients).
We also tried two of their Vegetarian Dishes, consisting of Steamed Rice Rolls With Vegetables, Mushrooms and Elm Fungus was surprising good, in terms of flavours and bite texture, especially after its drenched with ‘Special’ light soy sauce.
Another vegetarian dish was their Deep-Fried Bean Curd Sheet Rolls Stuffed With Tee Tree Mushrooms and well, it had distinctive flavours of the mushroom and crispy crunchy bite texture of the Bean Curd Sheet Rolls.
Overall, other than their food, we were also delighted with the attentiveness and efficiency of their service staffs, as compared to other local restaurants of similar level. Read moreWhile the quality and quantity of both food and service deteriorated, we reduced our visits to this restaurant. Tonight, to celebrate my nephew's birthday, we went there because he loved the Peking duck. Disappointingly, the price had soared by one hundred dollars, making it almost one thousand dollars for a duck.
Months ago, we had asked to keep the duck trunk, which was no problem. However, tonight the manager told us they could not accommodate our request, but if another table ordered the duck and didn't want the trunk, they would give it to us. I paid one thousand dollars for a duck but couldn't take the remaining part home, relying instead on the generosity of other guests who might also order Peking duck.
Previously, we had to wait for the Peking duck, but today it was the first dish served. Disappointingly, the quality had deteriorated. We ordered half a roast chicken, but the portion was as small as a regular serving. This explained why the waitress kept persuading me to order a whole chicken instead of half, as the small portion was less noticeable in a whole order. Worse still, the quantity of every dish had decreased, and the quality of the food had deteriorated.
My elder sister asked why I had ordered so many greasy and poor-looking dishes. Despite having many staff members, only one managed to add hot water, and he didn't check if the two pots needed refilling. When I requested the bill and provided my telephone number for the member discount, I was informed that I was no longer a member because they had changed the system and abolished the previous one. Had I known this beforehand, I definitely would not have considered this restaurant.
I told the staff that I wouldn't argue with them but would write an email to their company. The manager mentioned the system change but forgot to tell me the amount I owed. I directly asked if they could maintain their service. Even then, he didn't understand what I meant. I paid four thousand dollars for ten small dishes with the taste of an ordinary restaurant.
