I like stopping by Cocos Hung Heng on Rua da Tercena from time to time for their homemade coconut ice-cream. This is a local shop that has been in operation since 1869. Its a neat place and a small business worth supporting in order to ensure its preservation in the quickly developing and modernising Macau.
Opening hours are 9am to 1pm and 2.30-7pm daily. They sell cups of frozen cocunut ice-cream (MOP25) until they run out each day. the ice-cream is solid and frozen so give it a couple minutes to warm up a bit, otherwise you'll be eating crystallised ice-cream which isn't great. As it warms just a bit, the ice-cream becomes soft and smooth. It has a good coconut taste. There is no sugar added so its not too sweet like what you can find at the more generic ice-cream sellers nearer to the main tourist areas.
In the end, this is one of the many fun street foods to try around the Historic Centre of Macau. Give them a try if you want to try coconut ice-cream, the way its been made here...
