Rude, Judgemental and Pretentious Manager!
After seeing some good reviews, I booked Goodfellas for a special occasion as my family was visiting from abroad. I am APPALLED at the service. I have lived in Shanghai for 6 years and never experienced such an attitude from the waiter (who I understand is the manager).
As we were asked what water we would like to drink, I just asked for table water. The manager responded that they only have bottled still or sparkling water (which is not a problem) but it was said with a pretentious attitude and facial expression. My whole family immediately observed this. We later asked for a drinks menu and ordered two glasses of Rose but felt the similar vibe.
As the meal proceeded I observed the manager's behaviour with other tables which seemed different and how I would expect. Perhaps it was because we we did not order bottles of wine or it was clear we had people from out of town. I honestly do not know.
As we checked the bill we saw that the French fries cost over 250RMB! After checking with the manager he explained that they accidently doubled charged. This was an understandable mistake so it was not a problem. I then mentioned I would like to use the vouchers from Dazhongdianping (a Chinese Review app). As I said this the manager immediately turned around (seemingly disgusted/annoyed) and said to another waiter "they want to use vouchers". There was no acknowledgement, he just walked away.
As we left the restaurant, my wife asked another employee for a mobile number or email for management so we could provide constructive feedback. They responded they did not have any contact information and called over the manager. After politely asking why we were treated in such a way by the manager it was clear that any constructive feedback was not welcome. In the middle of the conversation, the manager said "I don't know what your problem is!" and he walked away as we were talking. Diabolical behaviour from someone in the service industry.
I thought perhaps the manager was having a bad day but it seems other reviewers have experience problems with the service.
FYI the food was average, except the lasagne which was delicious. The other waiters and waitresses I had no issues with.
I will NEVER be returning and suggest you to try other restaurants in the area if you want to be near the Bund. I hope the owners take the reviews seriously as I would never wish for anyone to experience the same. It ruined what was meant to be a lovely evening...
Read moreAn unexpected gem in Shanghai. One of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever experienced and my family is from Italy.
The Lasagna is perfection. Amazing creamy sauce packed with flavor. The squid appetizer is tender and delicious. The ravioli pasta is al dente and the filling is fantastic. The burrata and parma are perfect. The drinks are good, especially the mojito and Negroni, and they have excellently priced and delicious red wine (and I generally dislike red wine).
Will definitely be back on future trips...
