This is a small place with a simple menu, mainly sandwiches, salads, soups, etc. The price is on the high end for the food served in terms of quality and quantity. A bowl of chowder is abou $8; sandwiches range about $9.50 to $11. The service isn't that good. We waited quite a while after sitting down before someone came to take our order. First we asked for milk shakes, and the waitress said their milk shake machine wasn't working. Then we asked for root beer floats, and the waitress said they didn't have any ice cream. Yet a few minutes later we saw other waitresses bringing both milk shakes and ice cream floats to 2 different tables next to us.

The food came quickly. Our chowders were bland and not very hot, and the sandwiches were average. It wouldn't be that bad except for the fact that about 4 hours after I ate at Chowder House I started having painful diarrhea. I ate nothing else during those 4 hours. We had a late lunch at Chowder House around 3:30pm. The only other food I ate during the day was at hotel breakfast around 8:00am. So I'm pretty sure the diarrhea was caused by something I ate during lunch at Chowder House.
