REI — Attraction in Fairbanks

I recently purchased a Yakima lock&load roof-top platform at this store. I was informed by a member of the store that everything I needed (excluding the tools required) was included in the box. As it turned out, the Yakima product did not include clamps necessary to mount it to the car. This was a last minute purchase for a road trip I would be taking the following weekend and I was in a rush to get the thing installed. REI sold this product to me without the necessary parts required to use it and did not have any in stock. Moreover, they did not have a solution for me. (I ended up using hose clamps and some zipties to lock it down, it was not ideal!) This shows poor inventory management and a lack of knowledge in the sales associates. After a horrible experience trying to purchase a kayak from Sportsman's Warehouse I came here instead. Much more pleasant experience. An associate was very quick to help me carry the kayak to checkout and even offered to help carry it to my vehicle. The process was as smooth as butter.

Also purchased a couple of bikes online from REI a few months back and that was also a smooth process. Didn't have the bikes we wanted in store but an associate did help fit us for the appropriate sized bikes. We placed an order online, once received REI put our bikes together for us and they're still going strong three months later. Have not had to bring the bikes in for any tune ups since.

With how hard it can be to get large items shipped to Alaska it's nice to have a good store you...

The don't they don't acknowledge their warranty program the 100% satisfaction guaranteed. I had a pair of shoes that blew out in a month and hurt my feet, and they denied me on their return policy. They are overpriced I would recommend going to other sports stores in the local area. And another thing don't tell him you work out of town. They get you to buy stuff saying that it's 100% satisfaction guaranteed but don't honor their policy. So they guarantee their gear and their friend's gear but they don't do it if you don't know anybody.
