Went here on recommendation from flavorsofbogota and positive google reviews. I was disappointed. Service was unreasonably slow (waited 1hr for my entree, despite the restaurant being mostly empty). They were out of jugo mandarina (orange juice) despite it being one of the few fresh pressed juices on the menu. They offered mango juice instead and then failed to ever bring it despite charging me for it at the end (I complained and they gave it to me in a togo cup - it ended up being pretty tasty).
I ordered the ajiaco pollo (a typical Colombian chicken soup dish), again on recommendation from food blogs. After waiting 1hr it finally arrived, it was meh. Tasted like a heavy chicken soup with corn, nothing special. I only ate half of it, and left the rest. Got a queso platano appetizer (plantain with cheese and jam) and that was pretty delicious.
Not sure if I was just getting the tourist treatment or what, but prices were unreasonably high given the poor service and meh-tasting entree.
I would not return here or recommend it to...
Read moreOne of the most traditional Colombian restaurants in Bogotá, this Casa Vieja location is part of the modern history of Bogotá's downtown. Service is good though slightly behind great, food is very good but price is a little above fair.
I had Empanadas for appetizer, very good traditional fried empanadas, truly remarkable. Main dish was "Almuerzo Campesino" (Farmer's Lunch) which is a mix of cow rib, chicken breast, and pork boiled with potato, yucca, corn cob, arracacha, and plantain, topped with a tomato-onion sauce and served in a beautiful traditional pot, delicious and quite nice to look too. For dessert I had "Esponjado de curuba" (Curuba -Banana Passionfruit according to Wikipedia- Mousse), traditional in Colombia and good here, but slightly disappointing as I was expecting much better.
Still, overall the place is recommended, but be ready for something that is expensive for Colombian standards though totally worth it for some...
Read moreThis place is so disgusting and on top of that, it's overpriced! I ordered a beef brisket and my husband ordered the Colombian empanadas. The food came out literally two minutes after we ordered it, which was already a bad sign. My brisket was absolutely gross! It was basically a thin slice of beef that was cold and SLIMY and impossible to cut. The potatoes that came with it were also cold and smothered in some disgusting yellow sauce. The empanadas were hot for a change, but tasted weird. We could tell they weren't fresh and were deep fried to disguise the fact that they were not fresh. I explained that the food was gross to two separate waiters, but in the end nothing was done about it. We paid 47,000 COP (without any drinks). Can you believe it?? This place is so overpriced! And for what? We both left hubgry and disgusted. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT EAT...
