Juan Valdez Café — Restaurant in Bogota, Capital District

The coffee was pretty okay. But after purchasing it and unable to locate any cream or half & half or anything, I was firmly told that i can't get cream/they don't do cream. Hey, maybe that's the coffee version of not putting A1 sauce on a steak, whatever, but at least the steakhouse won't refuse to provide it upon request. And obviously that was a blatant lie to say they dont have cream when they have loads of cream and milk-based beverages. That aside, this establishment appears to be frequented by folks that aren't particularly open-minded. There's no way to fairly make a general statement like that, so I can only tell you about my experience. Keep in mind that I was dressed appropriately, I was clean, extremely calm, and barely said a word, so the following had no probable cause... Immediately as a sat down, the individuals near me gave a disapproving facial expression and got up and left. Two thirds of all the patrons left very quickly thereafter. And then it took about 3 hours before anyone else sat down within 5 chair-lengths from me, and I was at maybe the most popular area of the cafe to sit. At one point it was so obvious, I genuinely felt I was indirectly costing the cafe a lot of business (because patrons were acting so averse to my presence), so I left earlier than planned, seriously... So now I'll save a lot of people some time and proactively say that I'm way-off and I imagined the whole thing... You have the right to believe whatever you want.

P.S. you have to give up ridiculous amount of personal information to be allowed access to their wi-fi; name, phone number, email address, passport info etc etc, that was shocking. I've never experienced that for wifi access. And I didn't recall seeing the "we won't sell you information", so that made me nervous. Let's hope they have...

I went there looking for some food without meat and coffee around 2pm, I could see they had many breads without meat, like with cheese and cakes but they kept saying no to everything, not sure they were tired already and wanted no business. Location is very good and there are many restaurants, departmental store and ATMs around. I think this place was closed for some time and reopened recently. How shops like this JV exist with such mediocre coffee and terrible service is beyond me. Skip this place unless you are truly desperate for a cup of something that resembles coffee. I’m guessing the quality coffee is all exported or in...
