PERHAPS TRY THE COLOMBIAN FOOD? If you are looking for Peruvian food, and you know what Peruvian food should taste like, save yourself from disappointment and skip this place even if it's the only sit-down place you can find open in La Candelaria during a Bogotá lockdown weekend-- like it happened to us. Casa de Citas is a restaurant located in a nice Colonial-style house with a warm atmosphere, some nice decorations, and good Latin American Folk music playing. We were greeted by the waiter and sat at a table not on the central patio because it was raining and apparently the roof was leaking. There was only one more party eating at the restaurant, sitting right by us. We took a look at the menu, and after deciding to go with red meat, given we wanted to have some red wine, we ordered the Lomo Saltado and the Anticuchos. First thing I noticed was the Lomo was served with papas criollas, which were admittedly good, but an interesting variation from the original recipe. Tastewise, the meat was as if never marinated, almost like the sauce and the meat had been cooked separately, and also, no traces of peruvian ingredients in the sauce. The anticuchos dish, which was served with Papas a la Huancaina, was just not cooked right, the Huancaina sauce was weak, too liquidy, not enough queso fresco in it, and a strong taste of crackers. The sauce the meat was cooked in was very salty due to probably an overpowering soy sauce base. The chef came to the tables to ask how we were liking our food, and after getting what seemed to be positive feedback from the table next to us, we did not hesitate to tell him our impressions, which he did not seem to take well. It was overall a poor experience and I wish we had just stayed at our hotel and not missed the opportunity to get food delivered from an actual Peruvian restaurant. If I ever were to go back to that restaurant, I would maybe give them the benefit of the doubt andthis time order one of the Colombian dishes on their...
Read moreThe food and service were superb! My partner and I were in downtown visiting the city and we wanted to try typical Colombian dishes. Unfortunately, everything was packed and we were asked to wait up to two hours in some places. Disappointed, we decided to walk back to our hotel. But then we found this Peruvian restaurant and decided to give it a try. Best decision of the day.
We had a type of ceviche with potato as an appetizer and a pasta with octopus as a main course. There was more octopus than pasta in our dishes and the waiter gave us some tips to visit other places around. I don’t know how popular this restaurant is locally, but it should definitely be...
Read moreExtraordinary!! The gentleman serving us was a wonderful and friendly person. The pisco sours were perhaps the best I have ever had (and I have enjoyed many in Lima, Peru). I do not like seafood, but I shared the ceviche with my partner, and it was AMAZING! Maybe I like seafood, after all. We had the causa de pollo and the lomo saltado, and they were both excellent. The balance of flavors across all the meals was exceptional. It is not often that a meal really impresses me, but this one did. 10/10 would recommend. Do not pass on the opportunity to enjoy some incredible...
