Estoy Asao — Restaurant in La Fortuna

First and foremost, the food itself was fantastic. 😋 I am vegetarian and my partner is not and there were options for both of us!

I got the empanadas AND the vegan tacos and they were delicious! 🤤 The empanadas were cooked to perfection and the tacos were very flavorful! I will say, the addition of an extra slice of lime to have a slice of lime for every taco would be nice and perhaps even a spicy sauce for the empanadas as well! 🌶️

The workers themselves were kind and our server was very attentive in refilling our waters along with asking us how we were liking our meal. My boyfriend got the Vaca Frita with the pasta salad/cold salad and he REALLY enjoyed it. He said that the potatoes and meat were well seasoned and the pasta was also very tasty!

With regards to price, the pricing of the food here is very reasonable. If you are like me, though, and are 1) someone who works out, 2) has a decent amount of muscle, 3) eats a good amount, and/or 4) are vegetarian—get two of the vegetarian options because one probably won’t fill you up (again, the prices are reasonable so two options will total around $10-$12 usd. I started with just the empanadas and later on ordered the vegan tacos as well (ordering both would have just saved me some time, but not a huge deal). 😊

Last but not least, some suggestions for the owners of the establishment:

1. add a menu somewhere outside so that those that people walking by can see what the restaurant is offering.
2. Place a sign of the restaurant name at eye-level to increase visibility.

Again, these last few are only suggestions not complaints! 😊 overall, we were very pleased with our experience and would 100% eat here again if we happen to one day return to La...

This is a very tough review to make because of experience was so inconsistent. We came here for some drinks and food to go.

Let’s start with the good. The food was really good. We got 2 different sandwiches and empanadas. The quality was great, flavors were on point, and the portions were impressive. We thoroughly enjoyed all the items we ordered.

Why the 3 stars then? Our drinks were terrible. Start with the “2 for 1” happy hour. They charge you double the normal drinks but only charge you once. “2 for 1” but you pay the same price anyway. Next we ordered 2 speciality cocktails. The bartender got both drinks wrong and refused to acknowledge this. He told us several times they were correct but it was so obviously not. The high ball glass should have had coconut milk in the drink. Look how clear the drink is. Enough said. The lowball should have had passion fruit in the drink; again clear as water.

Unfortunately correct drinks would have completed changed this review but alas...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As a Cuban born and raised in Miami, I've been searching all over Costa Rica for a place that feels like home — and this is it. I’ve been living here for over a year and a half, and nothing comes close to the authenticity, flavor, and warmth you'll find here. The food is 100% real Cuban — no shortcuts, no fusions — just sabor Cubano in every bite. The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the taste? Absolutely phenomenal.

What makes this spot even more special is the people. They’re welcoming, kind, and I always end up staying longer just to chat. The vibe is unbeatable — you come in for the food, but you leave feeling like family.

If you're craving a true Cuban experience in Costa Rica, this is the only place I'd recommend. Worth every colón and then some. ¡Gracias por tanto...
