Konoba Bonaca — Restaurant in Grad Hvar

Excellent food! We were very positively surprised by the tastes of Shark with truffles and Gregada dish. If I would go to a restaurant only for food, then I would rate it 5 stars. Luckily, this is not the case. To elaborate: Atmosphere: 1/5 Service : 2/5 Space: 1/5 We were greeted and welcomed by very friendly and capable hostess (gave us quite good introducton to the menu). She forwarded us to a very stressed and disengaged waiter. Place was packed, so a bit longer time waiting for the food is OK. Space by itself is nice, but furnished with too many tables to call it cozy. Far, far from comfortable. My guess is they want to utilize each square foot of space, but this is heavily influencing quality of experience. Waiters have real problems to attend the guests. Some guests had to jump over backrests to leave for toilet 🤦 It is open terrace, so smoking is allowed. But as space is so highly utilised that tables are only a foot apart, if someone is smoking at the next table, then you are smoking also. At the next table was group of six smokers… Bad, bad luck for me. Another interesting fact, that I have troubles to understand, is that for house wine they don’t serve local, Hvar wine!? Instead they have wine from Kutjevo, region in continental Croatia 🤷. I have no words for this.

We weren't really looking to eat there. Just passed by and the wonderful Vedrana, the hostess started to smile and joke around with us. She immediately made us feel welcome. While she was very friendly, she was professional and convinced us to try the restaurant. She went up and asked that we get a table with a view which we got. Vedrana is the perfect example of what a smile can do and what customer oriented people working at your place can do. She is the image of your business. Then we were fortunate to be served by Zoran. He is one of the top waiters I ever got. He was so polite, patient, nice and helped us with his explanations of the menu and even accepted to unbone the fish we had.

The food was really good, the fish was amazingly fresh and good and everything we had was just great.

It was a perfect dinner experience for us while in Hvar. I really recommand this place to anyone wanting to be treated amazingly well and enjoy really good typical food from Croatia.

Had the meat platter for 2 for 47 Euros. Tast was fine except slightly overcooked. But we had a great experience because of our server Zoran. From the time we sat down till we left he checked on us frequently to ask how we were doing. After he took our orders he brought us 2 pre-dinner drinks - a rakija and another dessert wine (because my girlfriend said rakija was too strong for her). We had a great conversation about rakija and Hvar. When I asked whether we can refill the red pepper sauce that came with the meat platter he said no problem but before I could ask for a refill he already brought us the refill. I was impressed with his attentiveness. Zoran took time to chat and joke with us a few times during our dinner. He was really friendly and I can feel his sincerity and passion about his work - so rare in the service industry.
