First let me say that this is my fault and I should've known better. I was going to be in Limassol and told my wife to find us a restaurant to eat dinner. I should've been more specific and said in a village in Limassol and more importantly, as soon as I saw it was on the main strip, I should've just said let's go somewhere else but we were starving, it had great reviews and I figured, how bad can it be.
The server was amazing, polite, friendly and checked in on us often. The atmosphere was just as nice. Beautiful traditional look and feel.
The food however, was worse than I expected it to be, even for a tourist area. We ordered traditional Meze. The overkill of salt, on literally everything was a lot even for my wife who adds salt to salt.
More importantly though was how "gamey" all the meat was. I mean it was STRONG. You didn't even have to bite into the liver as you could smell it from a whole table away, and I love liver so I took a bite knowing it was a bad idea but I did it anyway. It was bad, real bad. The pork souvlaki was strong as well, although I ate a few pieces after I smothered them in Lemon and Tzatziki. I made the mistake of trying to eat a piece with just lemon as my tzatziki ran out and I had to spit it out. I can't recall the last time I spit out food. The chicken was the only meat we ate.
I was sad for the server who asked if we wanted take away boxes and we declined. He then asked if we liked it and we politely said yes but we weren't that hungry but you could see the look in his eyes.
Even if you're a tourist, take a 15 minute drive and find any local village taverna, which is exactly what we should've done. This is not what traditional Cypriot food tastes like and I can assure you the 4.8 stars are from tourists that don't know any better.
If you can only walk and this is the only place you can go, get the chicken and tell them to go light on the salt. You can always add more if you want.
I really hate leaving negative reviews but if my wife would've read one like this, she probably wouldn't have...
Read moreThis Tavern is located about 1000 meters away from Hotel Four Seasons in the direction of Limassol. At 7:00 p.m. only 4-5 guests have been in the Restaurant. Even at 8:00 p.m. 90% of the seats were available. The ambiance is simple like it normally is in a Taverna.
Fast we have received the menu. We ordered Tsatziki, bread (3,00 €) and LAMB MEATBALLS (12 €). The big bottle of water (1 l =2,50 €) was cheap. XINISTERI wine was offered as a small bottle (37,5 cl) at a price of 11,00 €.
FISH WAS NOT OFFERED.
BEEF WAS NOT OFFERED.
The taste of Tsatziki was average. The taste of the meatballs was very good. The presentation was with friendly words average.
After serving the meals the waitress ( female boss?) was not seen anymore. Although it was written that credit cards including American Express will be accepted it was not working and the waitress was helpless. So I have paid in cash.
My individual subjective Rating:
AMBIANCE: 2 STARS 2: PRICE AND VALUE FOR MONEY: 3 STARS 3: SERVICE: 1 STAR QUALITY AND PREPARATION OF MEALS: 3-4...
Read moreWhat a lovely Restaurant this is. Tables were nicely spaced out so you didn’t feel like other diners were on top of you (though there was only a small family when we arrived, more people came in behind us)
The Lady waiting on the tables was very attentive and clearly loved her job with a constant smile on her face and answered any questions we had, and seemed suprised by my knowledge of the dips that she brought over too.
We ordered the Lamb Meze (which was the same as the House Meze but with a few extra dishes) and when we asked if we could try a dish that wasn’t on the Meze Menu, she was more than willing to bring them out to us.
Items were brought out on small individual platters, rather than one large amount, which meant once we felt full, we were able to say it was enough and not waste anything further.
Kofini Tavern deserves more than 5 stars and if you’re in the area, please make a venture to here as I believe you will not be disappointed with your visit.
Thank you to those working the evening of 8th September, you truly made our...
