Fish Tavern Pyxida in Nicosia offers an inviting experience from the moment you step in. The ambiance and atmosphere are truly remarkable, setting the stage for a pleasant evening, while the friendly and helpful staff add a personal touch that makes dining here even more enjoyable.
The menu boasts a large variety of seafood dishes, and although I was keen to try several options, our larger table opted for the fish meze. The meal began on a high note with a warm fish soup that was not only delicious but also the perfect way to start the evening. The bread and accompanying dips, especially the tarama and melitzanosalata, were very well received.
Highlights from our meal included the perfectly cooked fried calamari and the tasty fish croquettes. The fried cod, served with a super tasty garlic sauce, was another standout, with the cod fried to perfection. The cuttlefish was also well executed. However, not all dishes met expectationsâthe shrimps, for instance, were a bit disappointing, lacking the seasoning and flavor one hopes for. Similarly, while the cuttlefish shined, the octopus fell a bit short, appearing dry and not quite as juicy as desired. I wasnât particularly enthusiastic about the other fried fishes either, as they simply didnât match my preferences.
A significant downside was the pacing of the meal; dishes arrived rather slowly, with some items, particularly the fish served at the end, arriving much later than expected despite being perfectly cooked. Overall, while the meze has its strong points, it could benefit from more creative dishes to truly showcase the potential of the menu.
In summary, Fish Tavern Pyxida impresses with its charming ambiance, friendly service, and a few standout dishes, though thereâs room for improvement in the pacing and innovation...
Read moreIt was chaotic and I felt disrespected by the staff. Upon arrival the restaurant was half empty, so I asked a waiter if I could sit at a certain table. He told me that section was closed and I suggested an alternative table which he also refused and told me to wait. Then a second waiter comes and leads me to another table and tells me she'll bring the menu. I wait for about 3 minutes, already installed at said table, until a third waiter comes without any menu and asks me to stand up and change table. When he sees my negative reaction he then alleges the whole section where I was sitting was reserved for a group. In most countries, reserved tables at restaurants have a "reserved" sign on them, but being my first time at a restaurant in Cyprus, I couldn't be sure how it works so I eventually agreed and moved to a terrible table they assigned me in the middle of the walkway. The absurd was it was almost 3pm and many tables were available. By the time I left, the restaurant was still mostly empty and I felt like the third waiter had obviously lied to me. Either way, since it was their mistake sitting me there at the first place, the least they should have done is maintain me at the table they had chosen and not bother me any further. My general impression was that it's a pretentious place full of shallow people acting very pompous who, when you look closely, realize lack the most basic manners. Overall, a very bad experience that I can't...
