Disappointing experience – lack of transparency
We visited Ouzeri in Paphos twice. The first evening was pleasant – the food and location were enjoyable. However, our second visit, on a Monday, was marked by a series of disappointing and unprofessional experiences.
We were seated at the low wooden tables, which are quite uncomfortable. The crossbars underneath make it difficult to place your legs, and the tables are so wide that it’s hard to have a proper conversation unless you sit on the same side.
Service issues began early. We asked three times for the price of the fresh fish listed as “market price.” Instead of being given a clear answer, we were only told the type of fish available. Only after insisting did we finally get the price per 100gr. Before asking for the bill, we ordered an orange cake with mastiha ice cream. After waiting 15 minutes, we asked about it and were told the order had not been registered. When the dessert finally arrived, it was served with a different type of ice cream. Only after pointing this out we were told they had run out of mastiha and had put another flavor. The server eventually brought the correct ice cream — but this kind of approach is careless at best. If an item isn’t available as described, guests should be informed and given a choice.
The most frustrating part came with the souvlaki. We had ordered chicken souvlaki, listed on the menu at €20. The waiter asked, “Chicken or beef?” — we assumed beef was just an alternative for a similar price. But when the bill came, the beef souvlaki was charged as a Black Angus beef fillet at €38. We explained the misunderstanding and pointed out the lack of transparency, but the staff insisted the dishes were the same and told us to pay.
All in all, our second visit was a string of disappointments. The beef pricing issue in particular felt misleading. We also noticed other guests questioning their bills, which suggests this is not an isolated situation.
Our recommendation: either avoid this restaurant or be extremely careful when ordering and check the bill thoroughly. The lack of clear communication and dismissive attitude left us with a very...
Read moreTerrible experience for a 5* hotel restaurant. It was a Saturday night, with live music and we both wanted to enjoy the seaview & the band so we naturally sat at a 90 degree angle to enjoy both. We immediately got told off as the restaurant doesn't allow this kind of seating. Initially we were told that this was due to Covid distance rules but then they changed it to 'restaurant policy'.
Our octopus dish came and it was literally cold all over. We complained and got a replacement which was nice and hot but the staff were not apologetic. Found that bizzare.
We ordered 2 mains (squid on the grill & sea bream). The squid came quite swiftly, but the other main came literally 20 minutes later. I was eating slow so we could get to enjoy eating together, but sadly, it took so long for the other main that I was watching my partner eat by themselves. Ridiculous.
Additionally, the lighting was so bad, that people, including ourselves resolved to turning their mobile phone flashes on to see their food.
We ordered wine which we resorted to pouring ourselves at least twice.
Overall it wasn't a great experience, considering the restaurant is part of a 5 * hotel.
Good food, but if the experience is negative, not worth my...
Read moreSpotted this place by accident when walking on the harbor. We were attracted by it because we saw that they will have a live music performance on Friday night and because they had candles on the table. Also, I couldn't but notice that the price was cheaper than in the other restaurants, even though this restaurant had a stunning view..but as for everything, there was a reason why prices were cheaper! :)
So we got a table in the first line with a view, the music was very soothing and we were waiting for the food.
Portions were micro-small! That's why the price was in a half cheaper than in other places around. Chicken souvlaki was very small and the side salad was very little too. The taste was ok, but nothing that would be worth that price.
Also, we ordered a side dish- baby potatoes with coriander, waiter brought potatoes without coriander and tried to tell me that coriander is in there! Even if it would be powder coriander (thus invisible :D ) we could still feel the taste, but there was nothing and later the waiter brought chopped coriander, I guess realized that the kitchen forgot to add it...
Portions are very small, but if you go for atmosphere then you might like it. We loved candles,...
