Restaurant Diana — Restaurant in okres Karlovy Vary

Service below lowest expectations! First I had to wait about half an hour to get to order my food (although it was already well after the big lunch rush). There were several idle waiters strolling around, but they had me wait for someone specific, who then came, left again without talking to me or answering and only came back again way later.

The dish that I ordered should have been pheasant, but it tasted more like oddly spiced turkey or something. I've cooked pheasant myself often enough to notice that this didn't have much in common. For what it was, it may have been okay. The cabbage was a bit tasteless, though, and the dumplings reminded me a bit to wet cardboard.

When paying, the waiter didn't have any change at hands, which I've never seen in any restaurant of the world, let alone in such a well-frequented place. So she left with my 1000 CZK bank note and had me then wait for my change for what felt like another twenty minutes. Even then, she didn't have more than three small coins at hands, kind of enforcing a tip I was no longer willing to give at that point due to the inacceptable...

This restaurant has a self-imposed, frantic atmosphere. A large fleet of young waiting staff is working their backs to take any empty plates off you as soon as you put the fork down. No matter if your companions are still eating...Same will happen to your empty bottle of bear; forget about looking at the ingredients of your Heineken...the bottle is already gone...taken back by frequently cruising waitresses...

When it comes to paying, you will be reminded that service has not been included. The receipt will be highlighted to show you clearly not to forget about the tip. It doesn't matter you want to pay it or not...

Finally, you'll find out (or you may actually not) that as much as 10% of your change (which is coins) have been hidden in the corners of the wallet your change was brought over to you. The aim is to make you pay the tip as you are unlikely to make a fuss...

Wir waren für 2 Tage im alten Kurort Karlovy Vary und schlenderten an der Eger entlang. In der Nähe des Grandhotel Pupp, man kann sie fast übersehen, befindet sich eine kleine Gasse. Mariánská. Es ist eigentlich keine wirklich Gasse, mehr so etwas wie ein Eingang. Dieser führt zur Talstation Lanovka Diana, der Standseilbahn. Es ist der erste Schritt zur Waldwirtschaft Diana auf der Freundschaftshöhe in etwas mehr als 560m.n.m . Wir landeten jedoch durch Zufall in der Seilbahn und waren eigentlich nur auf einen Kaffee mit Aussicht aus. Von dem Restaurant hatten wir keine Ahnung. Die Aussicht war auch sehr schön und ließ sich über den 35 Meter hohen Aussichtsturm auch noch steigern. Entweder kann man sich den Hunger über 150 Stufen rauf, erlaufen oder man fährt Fahrstuhl. Wer jedoch schon Hunger hat und denkt er stirbt vor dem Aufstieg kann im Diana erstmal stärken. Neben Kaffee, Kuchen, Eis und Blinys (Palatschinken) kann hier hervorragend warm essen. Während wir noch nach einem Tisch in der gutbesuchten Waldwirtschaft spähten, stolzierte ein weißer Pfau an uns vorrüber. Ich hatte bisher noch nie einen gesehen, geschweige denn gewusst, dass es welche gab. Neben dem Pfau, der wohl Teil des Mini-Zoos ist, gibt es noch ein Schmetterlingshaus. Beides ließen wir jedoch aus. Wir nahmen auf den rustikalen Holzbänken Platz und nach ein paar Minuten kam eine freundliche Bedienung mit zwei, in Holz eingelegten Speisekarten. Wir entschieden uns für Gulaschsuppe im Brot(3) und Medaillons(2+) vom Rind, mit Austernpilze, Thymian, Speck, Knoblauch und Weißwein. Die Gulaschsuppe ist ja ein Klassiker und unterscheidet kaum. Auch diese war gut nur das Brot bzw. die Kruste war mir etwas zu weich. Die Medaillons hingegen war sehr gut. Der Thymian und der Knoblauch kamen im Weißweinsud sehr gut durch ohne zu kräftig zu schmecken. Das Fleisch war zart und durch den Sud sehr schmackhaft. Dazu hatten wir Bratkartoffeln bestellt. Auch diese waren sehr gut und nicht zu dunkel. Zum Trinken hatten wir Latte Macchiato(3+) und dunkles Bier der Marke "Krušovice"(3-) bestellt. Im Unterschied zum Kozel ist es etwas herber und nicht ganz so süffig. Der Latte kam, mit einer Note von Karamell, zwar aus einem Automaten, doch auch dieser war klasse. Wartezeit und Service waren gut. Die Toiletten sauber und modern. Also rund um gelungen. Und der Pfau machte dann auch noch alles richtig. Stellte sich in Modelpose und öffnete sein Rad in voller Pracht. Tolle Aussicht, tolles Essen und einen Pfauenrad - was will man mehr. Ort: sehr schön im Wald mit Aussicht
