The stay in Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) is not only about the springs and balneology. When you get tired of spa procedures and of walks down the streets of this fabulous town, drop in this small nice theater.
I attended a wonderful performance of the Swan Lake, performed by a local troupe and it was an unforgettable pleasure. Everything was perfect! The theater is charismatic and elegant and the cast was exemplary.
What was very interesting, they danced an alternative version of the ballet with a tragic ending, as it was initially conceived by Tchaikovsky. Odette is restored to human form and she and Siegfried are happily united. In this production they danced the Nureyev’s Swan Lake, in which Rothbart fights with Siegfried and dies, leaving Rothbart to take Odette triumphantly up to the heavens.
