The setting of this restaurant is absolutely outstanding. Located in a historic hotel, the space is grand and beautiful—high ceilings, elegant chandeliers, and classic European architecture. It truly feels like stepping back in time in the best way. The atmosphere alone is worth the visit.
The food was excellent—particularly the foie gras, which was perfectly prepared—and the service from the staff was warm and attentive throughout the evening.
That said, we did have one uncomfortable experience that took away from an otherwise great night. When we arrived, we asked if we could bring our own bottle of wine—a special bottle of Bordeaux we were excited to enjoy. The receptionist kindly said yes, so we opened it and began our dinner with two glasses.
About 15 minutes later, the manager came to our table visibly upset, telling us that bringing outside wine was not allowed. We explained that we had asked and been told it was okay, but instead of handling it with grace or professionalism, he was curt and irritated. He spoke to the receptionist, then returned and informed us that we could have only one glass. The entire interaction felt unnecessarily tense and rude, especially from someone in a managerial role.
We completely understand if the restaurant has a no-outside-alcohol policy, but the tone and delivery could have been far more respectful—especially considering it was a misunderstanding caused by their own staff.
Despite that hiccup, the evening was still enjoyable. The ambiance and cuisine are worth experiencing, but the management could certainly improve in handling guest interactions with more tact and...
Read moreIn our package was 1 dinner included in the grandresraurant and 1 gala dinner of Christmas eve. although I reserved days before in grandresraurant a table could not sit where i preferred. then came the worst: advent menu on the 25th of december (?) soup same as the day before at the gala dinner: a bad fish soup again. the main course was the same as on buffet the previous day for the non-gala dinner people. looked not fresh made. tasted also bad. Then the dessert was the worst, normally the cookies are good in the cafe, but this was an almost raw apple, 2 sices in some pancake fried then in a lot of cinnamon sugar with a very sweet cold creme fresh with vanilia aroma. no water or any drink was included in the price. No value or invention. nor the service as the food was nothing to do with the prices or the fame of the place.
the gala dinner on 24.12.2019.: the whole menu was not gala or festive, supermarket restaurant (globus) niveau and quality dishes. was not a galadinner. a pianist and Flute were played like underpainting, sometimes repetitive pieces. no performance of a gala dinner. drinks were here included bad pinot noir and ok...
Read moreVery disappointing experience. We were so looking forward to celebrate my mom's birthday there. My parents traveled from Azerbaijan and stayed in Karlovy Vary for a few weeks, while I flew from United States for a couple of days just to celebrate together. Unfortunately, our evening was completely ruined. Some employees were rude and disrespectful. We were literally shushed while my husband, who couldn't attend, video called from America to say a toast and wish my mother a happy birthday!???!!?? We were shushed in the RESTAURANT during a birthday celebration (?), not in a library or funeral home! It was Monday evening in November, not a tourist season and only 3 tables in a whole restaurant were occupied. So, you would expect to be treated properly and with some respect, at least just for chosing their restaurant. We didn't say anything to that employee not to ruin our evening even more. Next day we went to a small local restaurant with great food and amazing beer, nice live atmosphere and didn't have to whisper "happy birthday" to my mom! Long story short - don't believe the movies, because Grand restaurant Pupp is nothing like...
