Desserts are OK, but the service? Given its history, this place has the potential to be a major establishment in Karlovy Vary. But I doubt this would happen. Each waiter/waitress brings you a cake with agony for the disturbance you caused them by asking them to move. Also, the cashier lady, well well, a few lessons about how to be kind at your workplace may not suffice. This is based on 3 visits to the cafe (due to its convenient location), so the service has been consistently one of the worst I have ever encountered. Not sure the owner cares about having repeat clients, otherwise they would put some efforts in training their personnel.
Or may be the staff is grossly underpaid, and if that’s the case, then can’t blame them really.
Or…. Why don’t you just go all the way and provide the worst customer experience that can break all established norms and set some records? Your waitress don’t greet the customer? Level up, next time let them start by cursing! Your waiters throw the menu on the table? Go further, throw it on the costomer’s head! They don’t look at the customer when speaking? Next time let the waiters speak only with their backs towards the customer! You want a smile (do you know how many muscles you need to move for that, it’s tough)? Be ready to pay double. The cashier lady answers any questions with anger—go all the way, give her a baseball bat specially designed for customers! Or just collect customers’ cash and don’t bother bringing them anything, let them pay for the view.
So much potential lost for this cafe. What a pity. Wake up Carlsbad, you could do better that that. Don’t be a...
Read moreI was very happy to see french pastries in Karlovy Vary, and a lot of other type of dessert and food choices in Café Elefant. At first, my husband and I were a bit confused, because you enter the café where there are all the cakes that you can look at, and then you're supposed to go sit upstairs and they will bring you a menu with photos of everything and stating what it is in different languages. We stood downstair a little while not knowing that. 😅 Anyway, it makes picking easy, so great idea ! At around 10h on a thursday, the café was pratically empthy. It looks very elegant inside (although the velvet bench looks like it could use some cleaning). The workers were all very nice and friendly. The coffee was very good. The cakes were good too. Not a bad Paris-Brest by any means, although I prefer the ones I ate in France, but that's a question of taste. It wasn't too sweet which is good. I found the raspberry macaron pastry delicious, too sweet but macarons are always very sweet so nothing strange. A bit pricy, if you go to the famous pastry names in Paris you would pay the same price for their cakes than you do at Café Elefant. But again, it's nice to have this kind of choice in a little city of Czech ! I'm pretty sure we would come again next time we visit Karlovy Vary, so I look...
