To say that this was average would be a generous compliment.
I have just returned from my meal. The terrace was perhaps 3/4 full and there was a table of 1 and a table of 3 inside when I entered the restaurant - a very quiet night.
I was ignored by the waiting staff for at least 5 to 6 minutes whilst waiting to be seated - even though both made eye contact with me and I'm sure I'd still be waiting for a table now if I hadn't actually asked to be seated.
Once I was seated I was handed a menu that is branded Casa Mama or Mama Rosa and has all the elegance of cheap tourist beach bar cafe.
I was then ignored or another 10 minutes.
At this point in time I left my table to. check that I was actually in the bistro La Diamant 59 and had not inadvertently entered a different establishment. The waitress then quickly found me and assured me that Casa Mama and Le Diamant are one and the same.
Despite my reservations, I decided to persevere. I ordered the calamari followed by the sea-food risotto plus an accompanying bottle of rose.
The rose came to the table warm but I agreed to take it provided it was put on ice - though when the ice bucket came it was only 1/3 full and was thus next to useless.
I was brought some 'complimentary' bread and butter as an appetiser - which was dry, pretty much stale and flavourless.
The calamari - there is nothing fresh about this - it is frozen pre-battered rings of low quality squid bought from a cash and carry/catering suppliers. Overcooked, rubbery and chewy.
The risotto was bland, flavourless and overcooked. It was not creamy or delicate in any way - it was thick, sticky and stodgy (in English we would say claggy but I'm not sure that will translate).
I would like to be able to find something redeeming to say but I can't.
The quality of the food, it's preparation and cooking feels cheap yet it is being sold/marketed as being part of something far superior.
I came to dine at Le Diamant Bistro but was given something from Casa Mama, which felt like a cheap franchise or high street chain.
Save your money and eat elsewhere - the place next door looked good. I wish...
Read moreHaving been to Copenhagen many times, I have always had great food experiences. But this time it came back at me, with a vengeance. An absolutely horrific dining endeavour.... and I almost felt sorry for my seemingly quite inexperienced Polish waitress. I ordered the crispy calamari for starters with a glass of Riesling, then pepper steak with extra steamed broccoli for mains. First of all, the bread I got as a complimentary start was totally dry and tasteless, so why even bother. Then came the "crispy calamari"..what a joke. Oily, shop bought, heated from frozen rings of something flavourless. Disgusting! And before I had finished my starter and white wine, boom... there's my main arriving. And my waitress seemed surprised when I complained about it. Being hungry I decided to go with the main and skip the starter. But wow...the "pepper steak" was bleeding all over the plate even before I looked at it. And the meat was a very cheap supermarket cut without any flavour at all. The "pepper sauce" was a gooey, split and grey substance under the meat with absolutely no traces of pepper. Horrific! The fried potatoes and vegetables were just undercooked and bland. After 2 bites I asked for the bill, and my appetite was gone for the rest of the night. One word of advice; have some pride in what you do. And hire a chef that cares about his food, and a manager who cares about...
Read moreI don't write Google reviews but this time I just might because holy cow, man! From appearances everything seems to be fine with this establishment, the staff is pleasant, the atmosphere is actually great, but the food is ghastly The French onion soup somehow was very bland and salty at the same time, I couldn't taste any of the onions and the only good thing in there was this floating sad peace of toast with cheddar on it. And don't even get me started on the lobster soup, that one tasted very fishy (a bad sign that it's not fresh) and very, very salty, it was like eating dry salt straight up with a spoon. The main courses were "decent", as in not offensive. The salmon pasta actually was actually the opposite of offensive - almost absolutely tasteless. The only not bland thing about it was that it was full of fishbones. The Quattro Fromaggi pizza tasted almost good, props to that! The taste of the cheeses was very prominent and enjoyable, but the texture of the pizza was nothing good. The cheese was hard, the base of the pizza was hard, the whole thing was dry, I could tap two pieces of the pizza at each other and they could make a sound! The only good thing there was not even made in that restaurant and that...
