Motel One for me is usually a standard that is visible virtually in each Motel One we have stayed so far (Germany and Belgium). In Copenhagen this is slightly different. Compared to Berlin, which may I state is also a heavily touristic city I paid for 3 rooms the price of one (1) room here in Copenhagen. The rooms in Berlin were 2 standard double rooms with table and 2 chairs, the 3rd room was for a person with wheelchair and it was huge. The room here was much smaller 3mx3m, with only space to walk around and no chairs or table, the bed mattress was also too soft. Breakfast was good but also very expensive with approx. 33€. Yes, it is all you can eat, but this is offered at other Motel One‘s too for less! And it was loud because the courtyard was outside our room where guests were bringing back and picking up bikes and also enjoying a drink outside. In Berlin one of the Motel One‘s is right next to a train station but you hear nothing because it is very well isolated. Parking should have been reserved, but I obviously missed this and instead had to find a parking area on H.C. Anderson Blvd, approx. 7min walk from the Motel One. In Berlin when we booked the rooms they had a Berlin marathon ongoing, but this did not reflect itself in the room pricing. Here I got the excuse that the Tour de France us being started in Copenhagen. Today is the 20th June. The tour starts on 1st July - how can that have an effect on the room pricing??? As a Motel One I expect at least a different approach and this should also be reflected in Motel One membership clauses. A bottle of water is always great but not a big motivator . For us this hotel gets 4 stars for breakfast, cleanliness and location 2 stars for customer service and...
Read moreThis hotel does not hire enough housekeeping staff under the guise of saving the planet by not cleaning your room. They have a notice on reception on how it saves the planet not having your room serviced. It offers two notices to hang on your bedroom door to ask not to have your room cleaned or made up but nothing to indicate you do wish to have it cleaned.
The hotel also does not have air conditioning although they state that it does. Circular ceiling fans are not the same thing as air conditioning - all they do is move the same stuffy air around the room. You cannot keep the windows open to provide air to the room as the hotel is right beside a large church which bell chimes the time, loudly, on the hour. We purchased ear plugs to have a chance to sleep through the night.
The hotel cleaned our room on only one occasion during our 4 night stay. We complained the first time but housekeeping is outsourced and at 5pm it was too late for anyone at the hotel to do anything and so we had no choice but to have an uncleaned room. We asked for a note to be placed on the system to ensure the room was cleaned - the next day, the one and only day, the room was cleaned. Next day again the room went completely uncleaned again, although we had asked specifically for it to be cleaned. Again there was nothing they could do about this at the hotel. I was and am very unhappy by the service.
Eventually they provided us with another room - for us to use this of course we had to pack up to get to it and unpack in it once we were there. But at least it was clean.
We were not even offered an 'I'm sorry' from the hotel Just 'I can see why you would have a problem with this' It is atrocious service...
Read moreI really wanted to like this hotel. The rooms look beautiful, they are clean. Reception is a perfect Instagram moment. Staff is welcoming, friendly and the location is very central (near Tivoli, train station, main shopping road). Booked and stayed two nights.
Here's the catch: The bed is basically a futon with an extra mattress on top (I believe this goes by the name of box spring bed these days). However the bed was worn through and very very soft. Both nights I had to wake up multiple times to put back the upper mattress that shifted and almost fell on the floor.
But the thing that really was upsetting (for the price paid) was a missing chair. So there you are in your room, watching TV or reading on a soft bed that constantly loses the grip. There is no way to sit down in the room and avoid back pain.
The only solution to sit somewhere comfortably was to visit the bath room's toilet seat.
Love the shower (I have the same style at home). However the shower floor is made of inappropriate material. You slip easily on it. Furthermore, I was surprised to see the shower floor entirely wet on the second morning - apparently the moist from the previous day cleaning did not dry overnight. Strange! Fungus Heaven.
My complaints are all minor (even non existent for younger travelers) and I therefore wanted to point them out upon checkout. However staff was very busy with other people checking out.
For someone at my age, this hotel should be avoided, if staying longer. The back pain and the risk of slipping and...
