Unfortunately this restaurant cannot be rated as much more than average, especially with the high prices they charge.
The waitress was nice, but quite forgetful. She forgot my coke and apologized for the delay, then brought us a bottle of sparkling water despite the fact that we were drinking still water, and finally forgot to bring us the bill after we had asked for it. I tried to excuse it as she must be busy, until my boyfriend saw her sitting and eating in the kitchen, so we had to kindly ask another waiter.
It was not the worst waitress we’ve ever had, it’s quite forgivable that she might’ve been busy that night and therefore forgetful, but unfortunately the worst part was the lack of attention to our table, we were never once asked how the food was or if we needed anything.
Unfortunately the food was not a big hit either. Oysters were excellent, and the truffle bread snack was very tasty albeit a bit too much for a non-cheese lover. The salmon tartare was pretty tasteless. And the mussel soup was delicious but I found at least half if not more of the mussels to be either fully closed, almost fully closed and difficult to open or not fully cooked. The undercooked mussels tasted like raw oysters and had a raw consistency, some even seemed completely raw. It was a big disappointment as the overall flavour was actually very nice, but I did not enjoy most of the mussels.(I have eaten a ridiculous amount of mussels in my life so this is not a “first time eating real mussels” kind of thing). Star of the night? Crème brûlée!
Last but not least, the restaurant looks very nice and especially romantic for dates, but i would never consider this as a first date as you are barely able to hear each other speak, it’s incredibly loud in there and i felt that I almost had to shout to the waitress across the table. Additionally the tables are so close to each other I feel very little privacy in dining and talking to my boyfriend.
I am considering giving it another chance and hoping it was just a bad day, but that is still up for debate, as it is quite pricey. We unfortunately spent almost 1200DKK for a below average experience, which was supposed to be a nice and slightly...
Read moreVisiting this wonderful city for the first time, I chose Pastis based on numerous quality reviews about the food. My experience may be unusual, but it was superb. I travel solo, to great cities, and finding quality a great reward! My meal was the tuna tartar, medium rare rib eye with frites and profiteroles. A sauve blanc and two Pommards with the meal, coffee and dark rum with dessert. My waiter made the meal when I asked him his opinion on my two leanings for appetizers. He honestly told me why one was much better than the other. I do not want to cause him any trouble, because his guidance was matter of fact and understated. He also suggested a wonderful wine pairing for my rib eye. The appetizer was a blend of raw mild peppers, and a garlic lime aioli on the freshest tuna. The rib eye was cooked medium rare/rare to my chosen doneness. Australian beef. I have almost given up rib eyes because of a relatively low percentage of high quality meat among excessive marbling. This rib eye, Australian I learned, made me remember how great this cut can be. Kudos to the chef, who delivered the steak perfectly done. The frites were crisp and hot, perfect to accompany this steak. Profiteroles, a kids favorite, was a delicious old kids dessert. Last, but certainly not least, the music! Tonight, classic Motown. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder...if you did not have an urge to move, you are better off somewhere else...like a burger joint, holding your #115 as #43 is called. A+ from...
Read moreI remember back when I first arrived in Copenhagen, somehow stumbling open (gravitating toward?) Pastis on a cool spring day. A shared name with no affiliation to Pastis in New York, I couldn't help but be drawn in. And so naturally, on what would eventually become my quest to compile a checklist of all restaurants in CPH that were worth trying, Pastis was the first one I wrote down.
Finally got there last night, and I was so thrilled that my expectations did not deceive me. Really great and friendly service, classy and cozy look and feel, mood lighting (great for date nights and girls nights), beautiful menu with a variety of the French food favorites, and a pretty extensive wine selection as well.
2/3 of us ordered the Steak Frites, because it just sort of felt like you couldn't NOT order it in a place like this, and it was delicious. My meat was cooked to order (medium rare), and the frites were amazing. We also shared the Chèvre Chaud salad (which, I must admit, was ordered more for the chévre chaud than it was for the salad) as a starter, and the "Pommes" (apple sorbet, applesauce, and apple crumble) for dessert. Both were fantastic.
Overall, this is a great place to know about around town. Especially in the winter, I think I'd gladly camp myself at a corner table just about any time of day or night, and eat...
