We were two people visiting friday night. It was busy, but still had a cosy atmoshpere. Starting off, there were a couple of misunderstandings, leading to a late start for our dinner.
Waiting for our table, we had some lovely olives for snacks, and a crisp and satisfying Sancerre white. Excellent start. We ordered the menu that had six servings. The bisque: Langustini was perfectly cooked, but the bisque had a bit too much cream in it for my taste, taking away some of that power and bitterness. We had the Mumm champagne for the bisque, which I think was served way too cold. The croquettes were a little bland and didn't have much flavour to it. So it was somewhat disappointing, although it was well prepared and the currants freshness was a good match with the greasy croquettes. The tartare itself was excellent, but lacked salt. The chips were also perfectly cooked, but I thought the terragon mayo overpowered the flavour of the tartare. On to the burrata (served as a shared dish), which were quite a surprise. Served with gremolata, and perfectly toasted bread. I have never tried this combo before, but I really loved the dish. The balance of the burrata and gremolata varied with each bite, but was somehow still perfect every time. Once in a while putting it onto the bread, gave that crunch you sometimes need, then using the last bread to scoop up the last bit of the dish. Just wonderful. They ran out of duck breast, so we had duck confit of the legs, which I love, so for me it wasn't a big deal. The dish was well prepared, the pommes puree a little too bland in flavour, and the duck was a bit too salty - which didn't help the puree. Still, we enjoyed every bit of it, picking of every last bit of the bones. We had the red Bourgogne, which was a really nice wine, and worked perfectly with the duck. Then the lights went out! Only the kitchen still had light, but the ventilation wasn't working either, so a bit of smoke started to pour into the restaurant. Staff was quick to apologise, and offered candles for each table. It was actually a nice setting, but it also had a great impact on the dessert, as the apple cake (picture missing) was served straight from the fridge rather than warm. It kinda ruined the experience. I did like the cardamom ice cream, but it overpowered the apple cake as it was supposed to be served warm.
All in all a nice experience, but I think there were some details that would have made it a lot better, like the too cold champagne, the salt balance of duck and tartare, creamyness of the bisque and blandness of the croquettes. Small details that made a difference. I might come back for the burrata dish and that lovely Sancerre, but otherwise I would probably not. If someone really wanted to go, I wouldn't have a problem with revisiting, I would actually like to see if it would be different. Don't hesitate to go here, if you can't find a seat elsewhere, are in the neighbourhood or just want to try the burrata. Or maybe just go there and see for yourself.
BTW: The power failure and the cold apple cake, is NOT considered in my rating: It was pure bad luck, and I think the staff did everything they could to...
Read moreYou really wonder how a place like Bistro Central can be a part of the legendary Sovino Brands owned by Mr. Torben Olsen based on how appalling the service and quality of food was today.
We ordered breakfast for 4 people at 10:30 AM on a Sunday as the only guests in the place. Waitress immediately informs us that she cannot make cappuccino as they are out of regular milk. Hmmm…. How will they then make an omelette or scrambled eggs unless it is done with cream? As we would learn it was not made with cream and Supermarkets are just 200m away in a straight line as well as sister restaurants of the same group such as Cafe Victor. No one bothered to get milk until we left one hour later.
We enquired about the food after 25min and were told it will be there in 5 min and started hearing noises in the kitchen. Food arrives and the rye bread is toasted black Likewise with the sausages (see photos) and the scrambled eggs was presumably made with water :(((
The waiters, Sarah and Mads, tried to rectify the situation by offering their a free cup of coffee. We kindly declined and had the two most spoiled dishes removed from the bill. This place is so beautifully decorated but the management is so poor that a basic breakfast cannot be organised.
And to complete the farce, when we paid and gave a tip in cash for which we were due to receive change of DKK 50 the waiter returned that DKK50 in DKK 2 and 5 coins.
We will not be going, even if for free, until management has been changed and staff trained.
The place only gets two stars due to the compensation given on the bill. Otherwise only one star and to be avoided at all costs despite...
Read moreI had a great lunch here last year - this time around was a disappointment. I arrived with my son, we went inside and were greeted by a server who saw us, grabbed some menus and then approached us without saying a word. He just stared at us without saying “hi” or “welcome” and so I just raised 2 fingers since we were playing the silent game. He finally found his voice when he asked if we wanted to sit inside or out, we preferred out, and he did find us a lovely spot in the shade. We sat waiting for about 10-15 minutes with no one checking on us, so I went to ask if I was supposed to order inside. The guy was goofing off behind the bar, talking to a friend. Swell. He said to order outside, so I went outside and sat down again. Another server came to take our order after a few minutes. The drinks came quickly, different refreshing lemonades (the thyme and lemon is good!) and the salads came a bit later, a chèvre chaud and a Caesar. The Caesar was a healthy portion with two big pieces of chicken, but the dressing was a bit boring. The chèvre was alright but the salad was exceedingly sweet due to the figs and the dressing, and the portion was a bit on the small side. I know we’re downtown but honestly, for the price they need to do better. Listen, I know it’s summer and there’s an influx of young unexperienced staff. I can forgive being slow and mixing orders, but I can’t forgive not teaching basic manners and that the main focus is catering to folks so that they want to spend their money at your establishment. But in general Copenhagen has a problem in this area. (I live here, speak and look Danish so it’s not a...
