At arrival there was no clear greeting/welcome and where to sit. At the door were three staff members, one who quickly ran away, the second one was attending the left dining room and the girl arrogantly pointed at our table. We also before being pointed to our seats asked to sit more privately upstairs and got told that it wasn't possible.
Our table was in the left dining room, VERY crowded, noisy and hot. As a group of 6 we could hardly get in to our seats. Having a conversation was also impossible because of all the noise from the guests sitting so close to us. This is where the noise issue gets in the way, we constantly had to repeat our orders to the waiter because he couldn't hear us and we couldn't hear him. When finally done taking the order, the waiter came back to us after 5 min and we got told that the wine and 2 appetisers we ordered were out, so we had to take 5 more min to decide on something else.
It took us 15 min from order to get our compliment bread, 20 min to get our starters and 1h from order to finally get our dinner. When we received the dinner, one of us got the wrong dish, because of miscommunication. Clearly because you can't hear each other in the room. So in 10-15 min they cooked the correct dish. I choose the calzone, which was okay. Not too oily and the flavour was fine.
The waiter that helped us was very service minded but seemed stressed at times, he forgot to bring me a second beer.
The interior of this place, although inspired by Italy shows art and pictures with Italian celebrities/famous people; the window boards were all dusty, you could run your finger on it and collect dust. The walls in the left dining room has these walls of mirror with painted dots on them, art(?), I don't know, and the ceiling color is far away from discreet. Even if it was there as a conversation topic, there would be impossible to talk about, as the small dining room was so packed with people we could hardly hear ourselves.
If it wasn't for the OK food and the service minded waiter, I would have rated this experience with only one star. It amazes me that this place was awarded as the best Italian restaurant in Copenhagen 2017. Maybe I didn't see it at my visit, but then first impressions are often the ones that stick.
Answer to the owner: Unprofessional answer from the owners reviewing my reviews of other locations instead of taking my critic and accepting that people might feel differently about your place. Because of the way you approach your customers I'm gladly giving...
Read moreLast Saturday night, I had the pleasure of dining at La Vecchia Signora in Copenhagen with a group of friends, and overall, the experience was very positive.
Welcome & Atmosphere: From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was warm and genuine. We were greeted by Emanuele, who immediately made a connection upon hearing my surname and started chatting about Sardinia – a lovely personal touch that made us feel right at home.
The dining room has a charming Italian feel, cozy and welcoming. We were given a nice, quiet table, perfect for our group to enjoy a relaxed conversation without too much background noise – something we truly appreciated.
Menu & Food: The menu is varied and well-curated, clearly inspired by traditional Italian cuisine. We started with a delicious appetizer that was well-balanced and flavorful. Then we ordered four pizzas, and we were all very satisfied: the dough was just right, the ingredients were fresh, and the flavor was authentic – a true Italian-style pizza. We paired our meal with Su Anima, a Sardinian wine, which was an excellent choice, along with a few soft drinks.
Service: Service had its ups and downs. Emanuele – who I believe is one of the owners – stood out for his professionalism, kindness, and passion. He brought a different energy and made us feel cared for. On the other hand, the waitress who partly served us was a bit less attentive. For instance, the appetizer was brought out before the drinks and bread, which disrupted the flow of the meal slightly. Nothing major, but there’s room for improvement.
Dessert: The dessert was good, but not outstanding. I liked it, but it didn’t quite reach the level of the other dishes. Still enjoyable, just not as memorable.
Final Thoughts: La Vecchia Signora offers an authentic Italian experience, with great food and heartfelt hospitality. Despite a few small service hiccups, it was a pleasant evening overall, and I’d be...
Read moreOn a recent visit to Copenhagen, a friend and myself reserved a table at 'the best Italian restaurant' in town. Upon arrival, we awkwardly waited at the front door to be shown to our table. In this time, three separate waiters walked past us without so much as a hello or even eye contact. We continued to wait for patiently for a very long time but it appeared no one was interested in helping us. We walked into the right dining room to enquire about our table. We were met with a very rude lady who pointed and very aggressively instructed us to wait by the door to be shown to our table. We told her we had been waiting a long time already and that we had a reservation. She rudely told us that we should not have just invited ourselves in and to wait by the door. By this stage we had already been waiting 15 minutes and neither dining room was full. We would have been happy to wait if they had acknowledged us in anyway but as we were clearly invisible to them we decided to leave. We have never come across such service from a restaurant who is supposedly the...
