We got breakfast here two mornings during our vacation in LT. If we had tried it sooner, we probably would have eaten there more often. The pasties are really good - and I’ve had my share of quality pastries living in both NYC and Boston for many years. These are up there with some of the best! From what I could tell, the owners/operators may actually be French.
The coffee was very small and forgettable - but I am not one for European style coffee so my opinion could be taken with a grain of salt there.
We had the baguette sandwich (ham and cheese which seemed to be a daily staple), ham and cheese croissants, cinnamon brioche bun and jam filled beignet. ALL were worth getting again!
Prices extremely fair and reasonable for quality and type of food as well.
We didn’t eat in, but there is a shared al fresco dining area that the shop serves to as well if you decide to...
Read moreA regular, reliable and rather simple boulangerie. A well executed Caribbean effort with a fair offer of pastries and other products. Will the taste blow your mind, probably not, at least not for a European used to these kind of stuff, but you will get a bit of comfort sweets, bread and boulangerie that will make you feel at home, specially if you get them right out of the oven.
Short on staff, which with traditional Dominican charm and joy did everything they could and even more to please the huge amount of costumers. Many of whom were unpleasant and hard to handle as this was 1st January morning. Much cred to the patient staff for dealing with hungover obnoxious...
It’s well known around the world — the French are not always the friendliest. Unfortunately, that’s exactly the case with this bakery.
Since Mocca’s Brunch Bar (my usual choice) was closed, I decided to give this French bakery a try. Here’s what happened:
I ordered a cappuccino and an almond croissant. The quality wasn’t bad, but nothing special either. Then I went inside to order something else to take away and to pay — and that’s when it started. (It’s really the attitude that matters!)
Apparently, they only accept cash, which I hadn’t noticed. The lady replied in an annoyed tone:
“It’s written everywhere, even on the front door!”
Alright… but a bit of kindness wouldn’t hurt.
So I told her I’d go back to my hotel to get my wallet. And then — unbelievable:
She actually asked me for an ID as a guarantee that I’d come back to pay for a cappuccino and a croissant!
Seriously? You ask that of your customers — and you think they’ll ever return?
