Kazan Restaurant — Restaurant in Geziret al Zamalik, Jazirat al Zamalik

We came in around 7pm for a glass of wine and a light snack. After passing by a bathroom a floor lower, that was filled with closed garbage bags and all kinds of perfume and deodorant containers in one of the sinks, we went up to find a pleasant dim room with a nice view of the Nile. We were sat at a table closest to the server station, while only one other table had guests. After having to look at the menu on our phones(with obviously very slow internet due to foreign provider) we were told that wines were sold only by bottles… only one brand of local white wine was available, when originally I have asked for a French red .. We only tried a goat cheese salad that did not have a balanced dressing ( way too much sesame oil, that doesn’t go with beet and goat cheese..?) our waitress , the only lady on the team, was not very friendly and didn’t even try to keep her smile on until out of our sight. We were asked if finished with the salad 3 times (!) when there was still plenty on the plate. The place is also very overpriced, which is understandable because of the location. Last night 24 Dec. My family and I were here, it took an hour to get our food... we ordered sushi, food was not bad but when we ordered more it took again long time. We were fed up and asked what happened how long more we had to wait. The place was empty so it should have been quicker specifically when it comes to sushi. When i complain and ask for the bill they came with a drink which of course was a good gesture but do not justify the bad service, just made it worst to me because when they know it was taken so long they should have explain what was happening in the kitchen and offered the drink by then. The bill was insane 9700 Egyptian pounds including food, 5 drinks, tax and 12% sservice. Paying this amount for such a bad service and average food is stealing money. It was the worst night ever. The service was terrible from start to finish. After waiting for over an hour, we were told the drinks we ordered were unavailable. To make things worse, they claimed we had reached our minimum spend after only one drink per person, despite the fact that our minimum spend was set at 3000 LE, and the drinks we received cost just 600 LE in total. When we asked for the bill, we found items listed that we never even ordered.

On top of that, they charged us 1500 LE from the minimum spend for the entrance fee, which was never mentioned during the reservation process.
