درب العمده — Restaurant in Luxor City

We came here for dinner after a long day of tours. It is hidden away from the normal roads you walk as a tourist but we walked here from our resort without a problem using Google maps. One thing we’ve really enjoyed while in Egypt is authentic Egyptian food far away from the tourist resorts we stay at that offer sushi and Italian cuisine. This restaurant gave us just that, amazing Egyptian food and such warm hospitality from the servers and staff. We shared the mixed grill which comes with a host of appetizers like spreads, salad, they even made a coleslaw for us after we mentioned we were American. They also brought us what I looked like samosas but we’re filled with cheese and herbs( I apologize I don’t know the name but you can see them in our picture) but they were so delicious, I had to stop myself from eating them all before our food came. This was top two on our list of best Egyptian food. Everything was flavored so well. Their rice especially was the best we’ve had this trip. The meat was prepared to perfection. We truly can’t say enough about the quality of the food and how kind and wonderful the staff was to us. Super friendly, attentive, soft spoken and helpful staff. Menu only in Arabic so we asked them to recommend (communicated in English ). We had what everyone else was having and it was delicious - mixed meat on a bed of cardamon/turmeric rice. The place was packed with locals, we were the only tourists. Meat so tender, delicious. We found this nice little restaurant through reviews on Google. It's not recognizable as a restaurant from the outside, you have to know where you want to go. The menu is in Arabic. We got our bearings with the help of the camera from Google Translater, but you can also speak English in the restaurant and they are very helpful.
