In 2022 the Mumbai Indian opened in Dahab and it was excellent. The chef had captured the essence of Indian food, heat that makes your lips tingle but doesn't obscure a subtle use of spices. So when we returned this year we were sad to find the Mumbai already closed. So we tried the Namaste: 12 ceiling fans, large period room, things looked good. We ordered papadums, hot daal, Madras hot Jalfrezi etc. But the food had NO HEAT. It was beyond boring. It was a kind of stew, over salted. So I sent it back. The manager said he would bring another. This he did, but of course it was the same. It came so quickly we wondered why it took so long the first time! I see this place has generally good reviews .... But if you like your curries hot, or medium or even mild, you are likely to be disappointed. And at the nearby market traders are selling the whole range of bulk Indian spices, so the problem must be a complete lack of training and appreciation regarding the preparation of this food . And I must add that for us both, including my partner from Leicester, there were some unpleasant after effects the next day...
Read moreReally good and well-priced Indian food in Dahab! We've been there twice, and got the dal makhani both times--it's not quite as creamy as some other dal makhani we've had, but we actually like that. Everything we've had has been excellent--biryani, curry, dal, tea, etc. Plenty of indoor seating, comfortable atmosphere, and fairly fast service.
As with many places in Dahab, they don't serve alcohol, but they don't mind if you bring your own drinks/beers to have here :)Really good and well-priced Indian food in Dahab! Read moreOh wow, what a unique dining experience! If you’ve ever wondered what Indian food would taste like without its defining feature "flavor" this is the place for you. Seriously, where else can you find tasteless Indian food? A true rarity! No spices, no aroma, just a plate of…something.
The service? Unforgettable. No napkins on the tables because, clearly, they believe in an authentic hands-on experience—literally. And the payment system? A masterpiece of modern business strategy. No sign, no warning—just the friendly cashier informing you at the end that it’s cash-only. And when I said I didn’t have cash? The guy, in his infinite wisdom, said, “Go to the ATM, withdraw cash, and come back. I TRUST YOU.” Oh, how touching! A trust-based economy in 2025—who knew?
If you’re looking for a memorable night out, where you leave hungrier, slightly confused, and in search of an ATM—this...
