⭐ Café Narva: Where Time Stands Still… and So Does the Service ⏳🥴

Ah yes, Café Narva — a historic Tallinn treasure! And by “treasure,” I mean buried in 1952 Soviet waiting-room energy, complete with pastries that feel like they survived the Cold War. 🕵️‍♀️🥶

Ordered a coffee and a cake. Waited 23 minutes. Got a mug of bitterness (and not just from the coffee) and a slice of something that looked like it was baked during Estonia's independence referendum. 🇪🇪🗳️🍰

The interior? Think retro nostalgia meets melancholy cafeteria. I swear I heard a ghost whisper, “Don’t do it…” as I sat down. 👻☕😬

The staff? Imagine your Soviet grandmother scolding you for existing. Warmth level: Absolute Zero. ❄️💔

Ambiance: 2/10 Pastries: 1/10 Existential crisis: 10/10

Would I return? Only if I was filming a sad art movie called “Pastry of...

Having seen this by place for a long time, I finally had the opportunity to go to this place. It’s a legendary cafe in Tallinn with a lot of history. The place still has an old Soviet charm that oozes out in the tables and the cutlery. It transports you back to that age.

We ordered a pistachio pastry, a cream roll, a cheese pastry and some coffee. The coffee was ok. The pistachio pastry seemed to be artificially sweetened and tasted like sugar with food coloring. It left a bad taste in the mouth as I was expecting an authentic taste. The cream roll was again seemingly sweetened and after a while our taste buds got tired of the extra sweetness. The cheese pastry was as ok. Maybe we did not order the right things, but be it seemed that the place is past...

We expected something special because it was a first place we've been recommended to visit in the capital of Estonia. But it was actually an average place.

Do not go there to eat food, you will spend a lot of time to stay in line and nobody interested to serve you when you come and take a seat: 1st time to get a menu,2nd to make an order. Website menu is not relevant, be ready. Quality of the food is much lower then price. Meet was dry and salad was not fresh. The bread was from yesterday.

What was OK is "soljanka" soup and dark beer. We spent around 30Euro for a lunch for two adults and pancakes for our both children.

I'm sure that this place is great to have a coffee time with fresh baked cookies and buns, it...

The food is good. The service terribly rude. I had forgotten how rude since I was a regular guest back in 2020. Came in this morning because I wanted to put it on my coffeeshop list, and was quickly reminded of this. The food: Their suur suitsukana pirukas (big smoked chicken pastry) for 3 Euros can easily feed two for breakfast. Cakes and cookies go by weight and are mostly cheap, filling and soviet style. Reasonable lunch offers too, at least for what tourists are prepared to pay. Pirukas and saiake usually have a fixed price. I had a smaller chicken pastry which was tasty, and an almond cake. Which was OK. Coffee, like everywhere, is now much more expensive, so I just took the pastries for takeaway.

I’ve visited countless afternoon tea spots and fancy patisserie shops in London, but this place beats them all. The buns and rolls here are unbelievably fresh, and my absolute favorite is the poppy seed bun. One memorable day, we arrived just as they came out of the oven—still warm, with chocolate melting luxuriously on top. The bun was huge, packed with poppy seeds, and so soft it practically melted in my mouth. This kohvik is an absolute treasure—a true gem that transports you back to the charm of the Soviet era. The authenticity and quality are unmatched. Thank you, Narva Kohvik, for preserving this piece of history and culinary delight! 🙏🙌
